'White Lotus' Star Reacts to Character's Death and Reveals Never-Before-Seen BTS Moments

Season three of The White Lotus wrapped up with a shocking and deadly finale last night, finally answering fans' burning questions: Who dies and who’s the killer? To recap, Chelsea (played by Aimee Lou Wood) was struck by a bullet intended for Rick (Walton Goggins) after he killed the mysterious hotel owner Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), the man Rick believed was behind his father’s death (but who was actually his father). As Rick walked away carrying Chelsea’s lifeless body, he was shot by security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong). It was a jaw-dropping ending that left viewers reeling, especially since Chelsea didn’t deserve that fate.

After the episode aired, Goggins took to social media to reflect on the characters' tragic outcome, sharing a carousel of photos, including some exclusive behind-the-scenes shots. The post begins with a still from Rick and Chelsea's reunion on the beach, after Rick returns from Bangkok. Scrolling through, fans get a sepia-toned look at both the beach scene and Chelsea’s heartbreaking death, along with several selfies of Wood and Goggins.

“Rick + Chelsea. With the heaviest of hearts… To me, ours was a love story. It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved childhood trauma. We all have them… but can we move past them?” Goggins captioned the April 6 post.

He continued, “In the depths of our despair, there is always beauty around us. If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it… not react… not be defined by it… It’s there… the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it… Trust me, I know.”

Goggins also took a moment to thank White Lotus creator Mike White for his vision and the opportunity to bring the story to life. He expressed gratitude to Wood as well, calling her his “partner” on a journey he would never forget.

He also gave a nod to Sam Rockwell (aka Frank) for being “the best wingman a fella could ask for” and thanked the entire cast, crew and fans. "Thank you for going on this journey with us," he wrote.

Goggins closed the post with a quote from Aeschylus: “Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God.”

Goggins wasn’t alone in his grief. Patrick Schwarzenegger, who played Saxon Ratliff, commented, “I’m crying.” Another fan simply wrote, “Heart-wrenching!” While one person shared, “I’m so sad Rick has such a tragic story! I wanted Chelsea and him to have a happy ending so bad,” another added, “I’m still sobbing, you both did an incredible job with this storyline, and it’s crushing.”

The consensus is clear: Long live Rick and Chelsea.
