Why is this such a big deal? Well, as I discuss with my co-host Roberta Fiorito on the most recent episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast, there are a few reasons:
1. It marks a splashy return to the red carpet for the royals. Yes, Kate and William checked out the pantomime with George, Charlotte and Louis last December and hosted health care workers for a screening of Cruella at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the spring, but as COVID-19 continued to rage, events stayed mostly virtual. A top-level film premiere is a big deal...and a sign of pandemic progress.
2. The fashion! Come on, it’s James Bond. Black tie is pretty much required. (Will Prince William wear another velvet tux? Fingers crossed.)
3. Finally, #TBT to the last time the royals checked out a James Bond premiere all together in a theater. A reminder: It was 2015. Kate, William and Prince Harry all dressed to the nines to watch Spectre, also at the Royal Albert Hall. This time, Kate and William will be with Charles and Camilla—a reminder of how much has changed since then.
Of course, the occasion is for a good cause. Among the guests in attendance, there will be a number of health care workers in addition to members of the armed forces as a way to thank them for their incredible efforts throughout the pandemic. Also, all proceeds from the evening will go to supporting past and present members of intelligence services including MI5, MI6, GCHQ and U.K. special forces.
Counting the minutes until this royal photo op.
