Magic freezer on the wall, who makes the best frozen pizza of them all? Well, our freezer wouldn’t tell, so we set out to determine which grocery store pies are worth the buy, according to folks who actually keep them stocked and on hand at all times (aka our editors). Here are the top 13 frozen pizzas to nosh on, whether you’re craving pepperoni, mushrooms or ricotta.

The 7 Best Store-Bought Pizza Doughs, Taste-Tested & Reviewed

Best Thin Crust Frozen Pizza

1. DiGiorno

“The most important factor in a thin crust pizza is the crunch,” says senior editor of branded content and cohost of Royally Obsessed, Roberta Fiorito. “Without that, you’re just left eating cheese and sauce by way of a floppy bread napkin.” While Fiorito enjoys most of DiGiorno’s frozen pies, she considers the thin-crust options to be the absolute best with the guarantee of cooking to a crunchy crisp.

(P.S.: If thick crust is more your speed, commerce director Nicole Briese swears by DiGiorno Cheese-Stuffed Crust. “I have a problem and I love cheese an unhealthy amount; this is like my guilty pleasure.”)

Best Flatbread Frozen Pizza

2. Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s has a lot of great stuff, but adding a flatbread to your cart next time will absolutely be worth it. Senior food editor Katherine Gillen recommends the burrata, prosciutto and arugula version. Because you add the prosciutto after the pizza comes out of the oven, you can pretend that, yes, you are cooking dinner, not just slipping a premade pie into the oven and calling it a day…but that doesn’t sound so bad either, TBH.

Best Personal Frozen Pizza

3. Ellio’s

Yes, the serving size suggests this rectangular pie could feed two, but since when does anyone care on pizza night? Beyond taste, Ellio’s also scores major points for its compact size. A box of three takes up very little room in your freezer, and the pies can fit in most toaster ovens, making them a particularly good option for anyone lacking kitchen space (we see you, college students).

Then, there's the throwback factor. “NGL, about 50 percent of my love for Ellio’s is the nostalgia but I do still stand by the flavor and quality,” says editor Abby Hepworth. “Plus, I like that I can make and eat one entire pie without feeling like I’m overindulging. I specifically recommend the pepperoni for an extra flavor boost.”

Best French Bread Frozen Pizza

4. Stouffer’s

The Italians may have invented pizza, but the French certainly know how to rise to the culinary challenge—or so say fans of this baguette-based pie. Similarly to Ellio’s, these are an excellent option for those who don’t have a ton of freezer space to spare or who like the ease of baking in a toaster oven. As one PureWow editor says, “I love it because it cooks quickly but also makes me feel a little fancy, because it’s French, therefore it’s fancy.” She specifically recommends the deluxe style, which is topped with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions and mushrooms, so you can feel good about getting at least one vegetable in there.

Most Allergy-Friendly Frozen Pizza

5. Amy’s

While pizza might not be the healthiest dinner option, eating one made from organic ingredients and loaded with veggies really isn’t so bad. These organic kosher pies are free of soy and tree nuts and come in gluten-free versions as well. As PureWow’s former vice president of content operations, Lauren Gniazdowski, says, “Because they’re organic, I’ve convinced myself these are actually healthy and not just an easy option for busy evenings. Plus, the pesto one is really very good for being frozen.”

Best New York-Style Frozen Pizza

6. Roberta’s

New York City has the best pizza in the country (sorry, not sorry, Chicago), so it should come as no surprise that this Brooklyn restaurant’s frozen option made the cut as one of our favorites. Commerce editor Olivia Dubyak calls these “One of [her] favorite NYC slices, and the fact that there was a frozen option that I could take with me when I moved out of the city was a dream. It cooks nicely and tastes basically identical to the fresh, restaurant version.”

But don’t just take her word for it—Beyoncé and Jay-Z are also fans of Roberta’s and have been spotted dining there on multiple occasions. Roberta’s frozen pies are available in certain grocery stores throughout NYC, but for the rest of the country, you can order them for delivery on Goldbelly.

Best Authentic Italian Frozen Pizza

7. Talia Di Napoli

Get that real Italian flavor without stepping foot on an international flight. Talia Di Napoli sells frozen pies that are handmade in Italy with fresh local ingredients before they’re flash frozen and shipped overseas to your local grocery store. According to Sarah Stiefvater, our resident wellness director, “The biggest issue with frozen pizzas is that they so often taste artificial and just leave me wishing I’d gone down the street to pick up the real deal instead. But these taste like actual pizza with real sauce and real cheese. They satisfy that pizza craving perfectly.”

Best Microwave Frozen Pizza

8. Celeste

We eat frozen pizza because it’s incredibly easy to make on nights when we can’t be bothered to whip up anything that involves more than one step (e.g., placing a pizza in the oven). But if you feel inclined to do even *less* than that, Celeste makes personal pies you can pop in the microwave and start eating in just two minutes. More importantly, however, is that you won’t have to sacrifice the crunch of the crust or the melty-ness of the cheese. Simply put, they’re incredibly easy to prepare and incredibly delicious (and a favorite of Matt Bogart, former senior producer for Gallery Podcasts).

Best Family-Size Frozen Pizza

9. Tombstone

Although they technically feed a family of four, Tombstone pizzas have also been known to satisfy the late-night cravings of two adults with a case of the drunchies (aka editor Abby Hepworth and her roommate). Luckily, you don’t need to be in a late-night hunger stupor to feel good about these full-size slices. She says the crust hits an ideal middle groud between crispy and fluffy, which is crucial for achieving the ultimate ratio of cheese to sauce to crust. Tombstone also offers half-and-half pies, so parents of kids with opposing tastes can make everyone happy without too much fuss.

Most Kid-Friendly Frozen Pizza

10. Newman’s Own

We’ve been impressed by Newman’s microwave popcorn and Alfredo sauce in the past, so we had high hopes for the brand’s frozen ’za. Luckily, it didn’t disappoint, according to associate food editor Taryn Pire. “I love the Thin & Crispy Four Cheese variety,” she says. “Despite being simple and kid-friendly, there’s also a unique sharp, savory flavor to each bite, since it’s made with cheddar, Parmesan and asiago cheeses, in addition to classic mozz.” It also doesn’t hurt that 100 percent of Newman’s Own profits go to charity.

Fanciest Frozen Pizza

11. Sweet Earth Truffle Lover’s Pizza

“I’m into these when I'm feeling fancy and want something a little out of the ordinary,” says commerce director Nicole Briese. This pie delivers 12 grams of protein per serving, along with the umami-rich flavor of this mushrooms, spinach and gruyère, Romano and mozzarella cheeses. As for the crust, it’s delightfully earthy, since it contains whole wheat and psyllium. Did we mention it’s also slathered in a caramelized onion-truffle sauce?

Best Bar-Style Frozen Pizza

12. Brew Pub Pizza Lotzza Motzza

Briese is also a fan of Lotzza Motzza’s pies, which we consider to be just right for game nights, watch parties and any gathering that calls for beer. “I honestly struggle to determine if this is homemade or not when my boyfriend makes it; it does not taste processed,” she says. Carnivores will adore the 4-Meat Pizza, topped with large nuggets of sausage, sliced pepperoni, bacon, Canadian bacon and lots of Wisconsin mozzarella.

Best Frozen White Pizza

13. Genio Della Pizza The Bianca

Una Pizza Napoletana on the Lower East Side is famous for its naturally leavened, wood-fired pies. In 2022, owner Anthony Mangieri launched Genio Della Pizza, a frozen line of pizzas that he spent three years perfecting. “The crust is surprisingly fluffy for frozen pizza, the toppings are classic but elevated and they’re relatively accessible; I bought mine at Fairway,” raves senior editor of branded content Kelsey Paine. For those of you who aren’t into red sauce, the bianca is loaded with buffalo mozzarella, ricotta, fresh basil and garlic.
