If I were to pick the most momentous day of September astrologically, it would be Thursday, Sept. 10th. The days leading up to it see the moon move through cozy Cancer Sunday into Monday, vibrant Leo until mid-Wednesday, before settling into Virgo. We’re at the tail end of the lunar month, trying to fight off sleepiness as we approach the new moon.

It’s exactly on the threshold of this new moon that several important astrological shifts take place—all on the same day, Sept. 10th.

First, Venus enters Scorpio. The journey from Libra to Scorpio is a dicey one for Venus. In Libra, she is flying high in a harmonious sign that she herself rules. As she shifts to Scorpio, she enters the domain of Mars, her planetary opposite. In Scorpio, she becomes jealous and possessive, even a bit controlling. Mars, her ruler in Scorpio, is also not in great shape. This combination can lead us down a path to pettiness and emotional reactivity. (Oof.) Remember that Venus is in the pre-shadow of her upcoming retrograde, and impulsive action now might have to eat its words next month.

Next, Mercury enters Libra. Libra is the sign of diplomacy for Mercury, wherein it seeks to smooth things over and find the win-win. But in Libra, Mercury looks to Venus, who’s sneaking through Scorpio, leading to a possible duplicitousness in our communications. Mercury wants everything calm on the surface while Venus is trying to hide her disquietude with the current state of relationships. Again, slip-ups here will likely result in revisiting things when Venus goes retrograde next month.

Then Uranus stations retrograde. Uranus is the restless planet that causes us to buck the system and set out on our own whenever it’s moving through our charts. When it stations retrograde, the planet effectively parks itself at a certain degree of the zodiac and holds the note for a prolonged period. This sustained attention to a certain place tends to raise the volume on the storyline, and dramatic events, especially in the news, are likely to occur within a week on either side. After the station, as Uranus begins to work its way backwards, things may calm down a bit. That’s because Uranus is no longer breaking new ground but going back over things and themes since its entrance into Gemini on April 25, 2026. We’re going to be here a while—Uranus will remain retrograde until February 7, 2027.

Finally, the new moon in Virgo occurs. It’s the first uneclipsed lunation we’ve had since July, meaning we’re now totally out of the eclipse vibes. Virgo is down to earth, and this new moon seeks to ground us in our discernment and rational mind. Where are we touching grass, and where do we need to be? How should we best use our efforts for the next month? Virgo understands the need for good data and good intentions, not just one or the other. The only aspect this new moon makes is a cozy one with Mars in Cancer. This is about aligning our actions with our principles and doing what we can, even if it is small and simple. Virgo and Cancer together bring out the humility in each other, and we would all do well to just show up and do what we can.

The only other transit of note is the Saturday morning contact between Mercury and the outer planets on the 12th. Mercury flows with Pluto and challenges Neptune, opening portals to big ideas and challenging assumptions that turn out to be delulu. It’s a mind-enhancing start to the weekend as ideas and communications flow.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

Your relationship planet enters shadow territory in ways that will test your gumption in the coming months, and how much vulnerability you can tolerate. Your words are trying to keep things civil, but your heart is spicier than it appears. Uranus may have you putting your foot in your mouth, but the truth will come out one way or another. Try out a new grounding meditation or mindfulness habit to keep you centered through it all.

This week’s mantra: “flow”

Cheeky illustration of a young non-binary person petting a bull.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

The planet of love enters your relationship house for an extended stay. She’s willing to make things uncomfortable in the short run to better express her true nature (and yours!) in the future. Meanwhile, Mercury puts its mind to the grindstone to work out all the details of the plans you made during the Pisces eclipse. Uranus gets real about the financial situation, so some plans may need adjustment.

This week’s mantra: “lock in”

Cheeky illustration of identical twins with long dark hair and a statement earrings back-to-back, smirking at each other.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Creative expression pulls you out of the management role as your ruling planet enters the space of play and self-expression. Venus moves into your house of chores, so don’t push your body too hard trying to take care of all the things. Uranus stationing in your sign means that whatever is trying to hold you back or keep you small is fighting a losing battle. The new moon resets your foundations, supporting you with a new sense of home and belonging.

This week’s mantra: “feeling yourself”

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

Lucky you, Cancer—Venus enters your play and pleasure house for an extended stay that will last until the end of November. Mercury turns your thoughts homeward and to matters of family and origins. A new moon in the space of weekly planning has your schedule adjusted to the changing seasons and what plans you have for Fall. Uranus in your psychological life may set off some big realizations, but it’ll most likely manifest in needing more alone time to chill from all the demands.

This week’s mantra: “take your time”

Cheeky illustration of a woman of Asian-descent wearing a sheer coral top with her hair half-up in pigtail puns, the rest down. She is hugging a lion, who is smirking.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

As Venus enters your house of home and family, you may want to connect more deeply with your parents and lineage, though this is generally dicey territory for you. Mercury is telling your story and networking as fast as it can to keep you financially afloat. Uranus has changed your vision of the future and where you’re headed, so try to be at peace with where you’re at and know the path will be revealed, just not this week.

This week’s mantra: “in the moment”

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)

Venus takes charge of your weekly calendar, and she doesn’t think there’s enough pleasure baked into your days. Mercury is looking for the funds to support a chiller lifestyle that doesn’t keep you so stressed all the time. Uranus wants to run from a traditional career but the money calls to you—can you balance it all? Who would you need to become to live your truth and be able to financially sustain yourself?

This week’s mantra: “to the drawing board”

Libra (September 23 - October 21)

Financial matters claim your attention and questions of self-worth arise. You can make it all work; it just might be a negotiation. Long-distance travel plans might solidify as you prepare to leave home for an extended time. Your mental health is finally feeling solid, so your upcoming plans can take shape in a more concrete form.

This week’s mantra: “captain”

680x400 Scorpio%402x

Scorpio (October 22 - November 21)

Venus enters your sign and the saxophones get louder. With Venus in your sign, there’s a natural magnetism, but because she’s about to go retrograde, it might be for the wrong reasons, or you might be ambivalent about it. You don’t have to make up your mind, and you likely can’t with Mercury entering the sign of paradox in the most hidden part of your chart. It’s giving recluse.

This week’s mantra: “keep your own counsel”

Cheeky illustration of a Black woman with purple hair on an orange background. She's in a wearing jean jacket, with a quiver strapped across her back and arrows sticking out.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

There’s a pause button being hit this week on some relationship stuff. Venus disappears into the most introverted recesses of your chart, meaning you won't know what you want unless you spend significant alone time figuring it out. Mercury is still cheering from the sidelines and connecting with people, but it rings a little hollow. Uranus in your relationship house wants to be free of obligation, so take some solo time this week and don’t force yourself to connect.

This week’s mantra: “retreat”

A cheeky image of a woman of color with dark hair holding a pink goat by the horns. The background is pink and her shirt is darker pink.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Venus might be getting a little doomed out about the future, so take your feelings with a grain of salt. Mercury desperately wants some forward momentum in a career space, but you have to ask for what you want to get it. Uranus is straining to maintain a good attitude in the workplace but cut yourself some slack or you’re likely to self-sabotage. A new moon in your ninth house has you rethinking your principles based on the empirical information you have.

This week’s mantra: “self soothe”

Cheeky image of a Black woman with blue hair on a light blue background. She's holding blue water in her palms, which is bubbling up and taking shape as her hair.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Your career is on the threshold of a pivot, not knowing exactly where the chips will fall or where you want them to. Mercury enters your publishing space, so words flow freely even if they’re losing an authentic meaning. A new moon in your house of transformation has you feeling grounded and clear about who you are, even if the next step is unclear. Uranus’s station pulls your attention to kids, so keep your schedule as nimble as you can.

This week’s mantra: “what you need is within you”

Cheeky illustration of a gender-fluid white person with short-cropped orange hair. They're wearing a light blue halter top as two bright pink koi fish circle their head.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Your relationships integrate the full impact of whatever changes last month’s Pisces eclipse brought up. Venus moves into the space of your belief systems, questioning the guiding principles you normally use to navigate. Mercury enters your space of deep intimacy, trying to negotiate difficult topics with kind words, but Uranus disrupts things on the home front. The old foundations will not hold.

This week’s mantra: “buckle up”
