The heart starts remembering what the mind tried to forget

A full Sagittarius moon occurs in the wee hours of Sunday morning, but experientially it’s Saturday night. I wrote about the anticipation of the full moon in last week’s horoscopes so it wouldn’t come as a surprise, but we begin the week still coasting on the full moon’s energy.

All full moons are moments of culmination of polarizing energies. The Sun lights up and empowers one sign, while the moon pulls us into balance by remembering and illuminating the opposite sign. This creates intensity of emotion and the turning point on a project or story. The week that follows the full moon is a week of managing said project but not breaking new ground. It’s still high energy, but effort is directed toward delivering on promises, not taking on more.

On Monday June 1st, Mercury moves into Cancer, where it will be until August 9th, due to a retrograde that begins at the end of the month. In Cancer, Mercury turns its attention inward, to memory and the past, feelings and intuitive ways of knowing. Knowledge and information are discovered and delivered with much higher levels of emotion when Mercury is in Cancer, so find your journal and prepare for the feels.

On Wednesday the 3rd, Mercury in Cancer runs into trouble with Neptune in Aries. Neptune is inspired and forward-thinking in Aries, believing that things have straightforward and simple solutions that can be accomplished quickly. Mercury in nostalgic Cancer doesn’t want to cut emotional corners in the name of speed but tends to feel things in a deep and thoughtful way. Neptune and Mercury’s pressure to speed up and slow down might confuse or mire a project, but the moment will pass quickly.

The weekend is smooth sailing with the moon in Aquarius on Friday, moving into Pisces on Saturday evening.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

You may be dreaming about far-off adventures after the Sagittarius full moon, but you’re also thinking about home and family. On Monday, you begin to remember the past, your childhood and nostalgia for the good old days. These thoughts can pull you from the present and have you longing for a sense of home. Hang some family photos up or plan a trip to see your parents.

This week’s mantra: “remember”

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

A full moon in your house of shared resources may have you reflecting on the balance of give and take in your relationships. Communicating that with other people will be a key part of the summer when Mercury enters your communication house on Monday, with plans to stay there until August. If you’re holding back and not saying things, you set yourself up for impulsive outbursts that may not come out how you intend.

This week’s mantra: “say what you need to say”

Cheeky illustration of identical twins with long dark hair and a statement earrings back-to-back, smirking at each other.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Your ruling planet heads into the house of your finances this week. This pulls your thoughts to topics of money, resources and what you do to get those things. Are you using your inherent talents to support yourself? Or are you working harder at forcing yourself to do things you don’t want to do? You’ll find so much peace in doing work you feel good about that’s congruent with your personal values.

This week’s mantra: “align”

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

Coming down from a full moon in your work house means the weekend was probably not a relaxing one, so try to take it easy and rest where you can this week. Mercury entering your sign draws the focus to you and begins a two-month-long process of considering who you have become over the past year. You may be thinking of your role in terms of your career later in the week, but you’re much more than just what you do.

This week’s mantra: “navel gaze”

Cheeky illustration of a woman of Asian-descent wearing a sheer coral top with her hair half-up in pigtail puns, the rest down. She is hugging a lion, who is smirking.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

After a fun weekend, Monday changes the vibe. There’s a pull inward when Mercury enters Cancer. Cancer resides in a deeply personal part of your chart, so there’s a lot of internal conversations to be had, and you may find yourself less eager to engage with others. With Mercury’s upcoming retrograde, it’ll be a longer story—we’re just in the first couple of pages.

This week’s mantra: “journal”

Virgo (August 23 - September 23)

A full moon in the foundational part of your chart has you considering matters of the home on Sunday. By the time Monday rolls around, your ruling planet draws your focus to your tribe and chosen family. You’ll spend a good chunk of the summer considering the people you spend your time with and your role in the friend group. On Wednesday, it’s possible you might see how some of them don’t bring out the best in you.

This week’s mantra: “belonging”

Libra (September 23 - October 21)

The full moon took place on the area of your chart that represents your neighborhood, but also your weekly calendar, so if you’re over scheduled and feeling drained, wrap up your commitments and say “no” to anything extra. Mercury moving into your career sector has you focused on the meaning of the work you do, both personally and collectively. The strain shows up on Wednesday when you’re balancing work and relationships.

This week’s mantra: “wind it down”

Scorpio (October 22 - November 21)

Finances are on your mind after the full moon. Mercury enters your long-term planning sector on Monday, turning your mind toward big questions about where you’re headed and what you believe. You’ve gained a lot of wisdom over the last year, and it might be time to write and share some of it in a more public way. On Wednesday, you may feel the tension of needing to process things but straining under work demands.

This week’s mantra: “meditate”

Cheeky illustration of a Black woman with purple hair on an orange background. She's in a wearing jean jacket, with a quiver strapped across her back and arrows sticking out.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

Your ruling planet, Jupiter, has spent the last year in a shadowy part of your chart. The place of faith, connection, belonging and even grief. It’s the place where old parts of us are let go and new vulnerable parts take shape. With Mercury entering that space for the next two months, you’re beginning to understand all the shifts of the last year and how deeply they have changed your relationship to the people who have held space for you in your becoming.

This week’s mantra: “reverence”

A cheeky image of a woman of color with dark hair holding a pink goat by the horns. The background is pink and her shirt is darker pink.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

This week pulls your focus out of yourself and into your relationships. Whether it’s your best friend, partner or even clients you work with, Mercury will spend the next two months considering how those relationships look and feel. Conversations that need to happen, contracts that need clarification and even unspoken wishes for closeness will all find a voice. It doesn’t need to come out perfectly to be worth saying.

This week’s mantra: “connect”

Cheeky image of a Black woman with blue hair on a light blue background. She's holding blue water in her palms, which is bubbling up and taking shape as her hair.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

The full moon lit up your hopes and wishes for the future, but you know it’s built from daily effort. When Mercury enters Cancer, it’s striving to balance work, self-care, exercise and taking care of others. Finding the right balance is a puzzle that will take a good chunk of the summer to solve, but begin by listening to the messaging from your body. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, prioritize rest.

This week’s mantra: “listen to your body’s needs”

Cheeky illustration of a gender-fluid white person with short-cropped orange hair. They're wearing a light blue halter top as two bright pink koi fish circle their head.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Your work has been demanding a lot from you as you juggle a complicated home life. Mercury moves into your sector of romance, fun and family on Monday, reorienting your focus to manage new summer schedules and fun in the sun. It’s a helpful reframe and offers a respite from the more intense focus on finances, which might feel stretched on Wednesday.

This week’s mantra: “work-life balance”
