Kate Middleton Just Promoted These Ten Young Artists Who Share Her Favorite Hobby

Kate Middleton has many different interests, from attending Wimbledon games to beekeeping with her brother. But, there's one hobby that seems to rise above the rest for the Duchess of Cambridge: photography.

The royal has dabbled in the artistic medium for years and whenever royal followers get a rare snap of Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis, we can almost always guarantee that the photo was shot by Middleton.

Last year, the duchess took her love of photography to a whole new level by launching a photo project titled, “Hold Still.”

This community photo project was meant to “reflect resilience and bravery, humor and sadness, creativity and kindness, and human tragedy and hope” during the coronavirus lockdown. The initiative, which received over 30k submissions, was eventually turned into a book that was published by the National Portrait Gallery in May.

Now, Middleton is using her joint Instagram account with Prince William to highlight some of the youngest shining stars from those submissions in honor of World Photography Day.

“Photography has an amazing ability to create a lasting record of what we have all experienced and are experiencing,” they write in the caption. “That’s why this #WorldPhotographyDay we wanted to celebrate the youth of the #HoldStill2020 photography project and share the images from the ten youngest finalists. There is so much talent, creativity and curiosity displayed in each and every one. Thank you to the @NationalPortraitGallery for being the home and archive of all these incredible stories.”

The photos in the slideshow represent a variety of different scenes. In one shot, a small girl is doing ballet in her living room, while another shows a man getting a haircut. These are images of everyday life, but they show the beauty in individual experiences.

As Middleton had previously stated, she wanted her project to “capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic.”
