Melissa McCarthy & Jennifer Lopez Barely Kept It Together While Discussing Their Dance-Off on ‘Today’

Melissa McCarthy and Jennifer Lopez may be able to keep a straight face on-camera, but when it comes to talking about their spontaneous dance-off, the pair could barely keep their cool.

J.Lo appeared on the Today show this morning, where she discussed the upcoming season of World of Dance, the Met Gala and her beau, Alex Rodriguez. But the real fun started when McCarthy crashed Lopez’s interview and recalled a story from when they had a dance battle this past January at Ellen DeGeneres’s 60th birthday bash.

At the four-minute mark, McCarthy joins the interview. When hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb ask about DeGeneres’s get-together, the Life of the Party actress admits that she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to challenge J.Lo to a dance-off during the star-studded gala.

McCarthy says, “I love dancing so much! I’m like, ‘I got one shot. I got one shot with this one.’ But I’ve done it before, which is terrible. And I literally lose my mind and I’m like, ‘If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, I am dancing with Jennifer Lopez tonight.”

As for whether or not she met expectations, Lopez confirms her rhythm is “amazing” and then jokes, “We had the best time, honestly, and then she just took me around the whole party and knocked people down.”

But it’s not what you think. McCarthy chimes in to say that it was so much more than a conga line, adding, “I was a bouncer. I was like, ‘Get out of the way, Jennifer Lopez is coming through.’”
