J.Lo & Ben Affleck Were ‘In Sync’ Before Their Surprise Wedding, According to a Body Language Expert

In December 2021, the couple attended the Los Angeles premiere of Tender Bar. They weren’t engaged at the time, but according to Coleman, they were “very much in sync.” Her analysis was based on their body language, including “their smiles, each with one relaxed arm at their side and other around their partner, looking outward in the same direction.”

Coleman also noted the positioning of Affleck’s feet, adding, “Ben is leaning towards Jen, and his left foot is pointed slightly in her direction, which shows he is thinking of her. He is holding her close, sending a message of ‘we are together.’”

The expert confirmed that J.Lo felt extremely comfortable at his side. “She has a soft smile, which communicated trustworthiness, belonging and good intentions,” Coleman explained.

Before the engagement, the couple posed for photos at the premiere of Lopez’s movie, Marry Me. (FYI, J.Lo wore a wedding dress to the event.) After standing side-by-side, Affleck pulled Lopez into his chest—a move that signifies safety.

“In this shot, Ben is holding her in a very close embrace that conveys a feeling of protectiveness and the message that he just can’t get close enough to her,” Coleman said. “His gaze is outward and seems unfocused, as though he is very much in his head and thinking about Jen.”

The expert revealed that J.Lo’s body language matched Affleck’s energy. “Jen is leaning into this protective embrace, which says: ‘I trust you and want to be close to you,’” she added. “Her smile is soft and conveys a feeling of contentment and happiness.”

After Affleck popped the question, the pair were spotted in Los Angeles. While Lopez’s body language didn’t change a ton post-engagement, Coleman confirmed that Affleck seemed much more at ease. “Here the couple is walking in sync, side by side, which communicates, ‘we are a team,’” she explained. “They are connected through eye contact, hand holding and a shared mirrored smile.”

Coleman continued, “There is a playfulness and lightness about this photo, where the couple seems to be sharing a thought or moment of humor. They are clearly tuning out everyone around them, focused solely on one another, a moment of true intimacy and candor.”
