6 New Kitchen Design Trends That Are Primed to Go Mainstream

Bring it, copper and warm gray!

When it comes to kitchen renovations, it never behooves you to blindly follow trends. (Hi, gaudy floral wallpaper and gross laminate countertops.) Still, we like to at least know what’s hot in the world of kitchen design--so we can pick and choose what we want to incorporate. Here, six looks you can expect to see popping up this year.

Classic Industrial

The über-stark stainless-steel look has been in for some time, but we’re loving the return to classic shapes and colors that still look right at home in an otherwise industrial space. This Big Chill range and hood has a total opulent-yet-functional 19th-century vibe.

Big Chill ($4,895)

Warm Gray

Huzzah for a return to warmer, more homey tones that feel straight out of a French farmhouse. Expect to see slate (often with a greenish tint) everywhere this year--especially on walls and cabinets.

Ikea ($58 per 18” x 20” cabinet door)

Steam Ovens

Steam ovens use steam (duh) to heat foods like fish, vegetables or leftovers, without losing moisture or nutrients--and they’re becoming increasingly popular among the cheffy set. This one from Wolf has a bunch of pre-programmed, idiot-proof settings that’ll figure out the best way to cook whatever food you put in it.

Wolf ($4,195)

Colored Sinks

Farmhouse and apron sinks aren’t going anywhere--but don’t expect them in a sparkling white anymore. This blue Kohler double-sink offers a pop of color without looking remotely kooky.

Kohler ($1,349)

Hidden Charging Stations

Ample outlets are a must--but these days people don’t necessarily want their ten billion devices out on the countertop. We’re seeing more kitchens built with chargers and ports directly inside drawers and cabinets.

Hardware Hut Docking Drawer ($179)

Lamps Plus

We’ve been hailing the switch from stainless to copper for some time. But even if you’re not ready to turn your kitchen into a full-on rose-gold haven, this just might be the year you incorporate small but telling details, like three darling hammered pendants.

Lamps Plus ($70)
