taco bell refrescas review: three taco bell refrescas
Taco Bell

Taco Bell has been churning out new menu items like never before, from cult-favorite chicken nuggets to crispy chicken tacos to Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas. On the heels of the release of Dirty Baja Blast (which tastes like liquid key lime pie, BTW) come six new Refrescas, a range of fruity drinks that’ll quench your thirst all summer long.

The lineup includes three agua fresca-inspired varieties, along with two highly caffeinated options (made in collaboration with Rockstar Energy) and one frozen. I headed to my nearest location to taste them all. Below, you’ll find my overall ranking, honest reviews and original photos. Let’s get our sip on, shall we?

6. Strawberry Passionfruit

  • Type: Agua Refresca
  • What It Is: green tea, strawberry passionfruit flavors and freeze-dried strawberry pieces
  • Caffeine Content: 51mg
  • Price: from $4

This one tasted the most artificial to me, yet lowkey like neither flavor in its name. It was just sort of vaguely sweet, albeit easy on the eyes. PureWow VP of editorial Candace Davison tried it back in March at a special unveiling of Taco Bell’s 2025 menu. “Admittedly, I’m not the target market for Taco Bell’s drinks,” she wrote. “I’m a water and black cold brew drinker. But I appreciated this sweet, soda fountain-y take on an agua fresca. One hack I’d suggest: A spritz or two of lime, just to add depth of flavor.”

5. Tropical Punch

  • Type: RockstarEnergy Refresca
  • What It Is: tropical punch-flavored drink made with Rockstar Focus Energy, containing lion’s mane, B vitamins, guarana and taurine
  • Caffeine Content: 200mg
  • Price: from $4.50

This one reminded me of a virgin Mai Tai (not the authentic kind, but the fruity, grenadine-kissed kind). It was very silky in texture and sweet with an effervescent edge from the energy drink base. Think of it like diluted Hawaiian Punch with a touch more tartness.

4. Pineapple Lime

  • Type: RockstarEnergy Refresca
  • What It Is: pineapple-lime flavored drink made with Rockstar Focus Energy, containing lion’s mane, B vitamins, guarana and taurine
  • Caffeine Content: 200mg
  • Price: from $4.50

The guarana came through strong here and drove home a sweetness and lush mouthfeel that was reminiscent of Red Bull (or um, Rockstar Energy—sorry). The pineapple aspect was, again, very sweet, resulting in a flavor more akin to pineapple candy than the sweet-and-sour fruit itself.

3. Strawberry Lime

  • Type: Refresca Freeze
  • What It Is: Wild Strawberry freeze infused with tart, citrusy lime flavor and freeze-dried strawberry pieces
  • Caffeine Content: 0mg
  • Price: from $4

The frozen iteration offered the most intense flavor of all the Taco Bell Refrescas. The lime component was gently acidic, but the strawberry was downright bold, sweet-tart and vibrant. Drink it as soon as you get it—its consistency turns thick and syrupy once the ice starts to melt and separate from the liquid.

2. Dragonfruit Berry

  • Type: Agua Refresca
  • What It Is: green tea, tropical dragon fruit and mixed berry flavors and freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces
  • Caffeine Content: 51mg
  • Price: from $4

Real talk? It tasted exactly like tropical or berry Gushers, if my millennial mind remembers correctly. I also thought this pick was the prettiest of the lot. The dragon fruit was slightly tart, but I felt it could’ve been sourer, considering the berry flavoring already offered plenty of sweetness. However, I enjoyed it more than most of the lineup.

1. Mango Peach

  • Type: Agua Refresca
  • What It Is: green tea, mango and peach flavors and freeze-dried mango pieces
  • Caffeine Content: 51mg
  • Price: from $4

This one tasted most like its namesake (more peach than mango, IMO). I found it to be deeply refreshing and well-balanced. Visually, the mango pieces on top were very pale and a little off-putting (my friend said they “look like teeth”), but I thought they offered a pop of acidity and a snackable, textural element that was more enjoyable to eat than the rehydrated freeze-dried berries.
