I have a confession to make: I wash my hair almost every single day. I know, I know, popular opinion says that’s not great for your hair—but it’s the only way I can keep my fine strands from getting greasy. Which also means that when I skip a wash, you can definitely tell. Hi, flat, dull hair.

So dry shampoo should be my best friend, right? Not exactly. I’ve cycled through brand after brand—drugstore and prestige alike—but none ever left my hair looking or feeling any cleaner for more than five minutes. That is, until I tried Sexy Hair’s Hair Laundry.

Initially, I was drawn to this particular dry shampoo because of its unique formula. It’s a nonaerosol spray, which means it comes out as a puff of powder rather than a thin spray like the ones I had tried in the past. So despite my poor track record with dry shampoo, I decided to give it a try. And I’m so happy that I did, because now I use it on the reg.

Whenever I notice my roots getting a li’l greasy, I spray a puff or two directly onto the area, massage it in with my fingers and *boom* my hair feels instantly refreshed. And it stays that way all day. According to the brand, that’s because the nonaerosol formula allows Hair Laundry to absorb excess oil and impurities. Aerosol sprays claim to have a similar effect, but their formulas are generally much thinner and, in my opinion, less effective.

Now you’re probably thinking “but powder leaves your hair looking white and ashy, right?” Not this one. It’s designed as a translucent powder, and while it does appear a bit white on the hair at first, a quick massage with your fingers or a run-through with a brush makes it blend into the hair seamlessly. It blends so well that I’m confident about spraying it on the back of my head and massaging it in without using the double-mirror trick to check for residue.

And I’m not alone. “I like this formula of dry shampoo because it’s not filled with alcohol and is much less drying. It works great to absorb any oil and gave me tons of volume because I really worked it into my roots,” one buyer raves. “This is the first dry shampoo I’ve found that actually works for me!” agrees another.

One pro tip? Be sure to spray it on before you get dressed (or cover your top with a towel) to avoid any powdery fallout.

Bottom line: Don’t lose hope, dry shampoo skeptics. Hair Laundry will actually give you the second- and third-day life you’ve been hoping for.
