Priyanka Chopra Accidentally Friend Zoned Nick Jonas When They First Met

Priyanka Chopra might be married to Nick Jonas, but that doesn’t mean she always saw herself with him.

The Quantico star, 36, recently attended the Women in the World Summit at Lincoln Center in New York City, where she revealed that she almost friend zoned the “Cool” singer when they attended the Met Gala together in 2017.

“I’ve known him for two years,” she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I didn’t think that this is what it turned out to be, and that’s maybe—that’s my fault. I judged a book by its cover.”

Chopra went on to explain that everything changed once she got to know him, adding, “When I actually started dating Nick, he surprised me so much… I call him Old Man Jonas. That’s my name for him, OMJ. He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much.”

Although she initially didn’t see him as a romantic partner, Chopra can pinpoint the exact moment he changed her mind. She continued, “One of the things that first struck me about him was we were on a date and it was time for the date to get over, we were [with] a bunch of friends, and I had a meeting… and I was dropping hints to my friends and they were like, ‘No, don’t go for the meeting. Just stay.’”

When Jonas saw she was dropping hints about him asking her to skip the meeting, his response sealed the deal. “Finally, he took me aside and was like, ‘Look, I’m not stupid. I know what you’re trying to do. But I would never be the one to tell you to cancel work because I know how hard you’ve worked to be where you are. So, if you could’ve canceled it, you would’ve done it. I’ll take our friends out for dinner, and we’ll wait for you and you finish your meeting and come back,’” Chopra added. “And I was just like, ‘That’s the first time someone’s ever done that.’”

Chopra and Jonas were first linked in May 2017 when they attended the Met Gala together…as friends. One year later, the couple started making appearances in each other’s Instagram posts and even went on a double date with Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner.

They confirmed their engagement in August 2018 and tied the knot in a lavish two-day wedding at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India, four months later.

Note to self: Never judge a book by its cover.
