Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Priyanka Chopra

Did you know that Priyanka Chopra Jonas almost didn't pursue acting?

Yep, that's right. The Indian actress initially had plans to be an aeronautical engineer, but thanks to a string of beauty pageant wins, she was offered an opportunity to join the film industry after she was crowned Miss World in 2000.

Chopra made her film debut in the 2002 movie, Thamizhan. And while she landed over a dozen more roles in Hindi films, it was her performance in the critically-acclaimed 2008 drama, Fashion, that took her career to new heights.

Following this movie’s success, Chopra began to show off her acting range by working across a variety of genres, from action thrillers and dark comedies to rom-coms. Among her standout Hindi movies were 7 Khoon Maaf, Kaminey, Agneepath and Teri Meri Kahaani. But it was only a matter of time before her fame extended beyond India's borders.

When she joined the cast of ABC’s Quantico as Alex Parrish in 2015, Chopra made history as the first South Asian to land a lead role in an American network drama series. After the show ran for three seasons, Chopra simultaneously worked on Hindi titles and American films like Baywatch, Isn't It Romantic and Netflix's We Can Be Heroes. Plus, the star pursued music for a short time, collaborating with artists like Pitbull and Will.I.Am. In fact, her first hit single, "In My City," was used in 2012 during the NFL's Thursday Night Football program. (NBD.)

Aside from achieving international fame, Chopra has been using her platform to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. She also founded the Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education to help underprivileged children.

In 2018, Chopra married Nick Jonas in not one, but two traditional ceremonies. And now, they share a daughter named Malti Marie.
