Joanna Gaines Celebrates Release of New Children’s Book with Rare Family Video

Joanna Gaines just added another credit to her already impressive resume.

The 40-year-old former Fixer Upper star teamed up with her five children—Drake (13), Ella (11), Duke (10), Emmie Kay (9) and Crew (9 months)—to write her first children’s book, We Are the Gardeners.

Although this isn’t Gaines’s first foray into literature, it is the first time Joanna has brought her brood into the fold. From the little fern Chip and Jo planted when they first moved in to the full-on garden reno they completed last year, the new book tells the story of their trials, tribulations and successes in their family garden and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Gaines explained the inspiration behind We Are the Gardeners and the family’s journey with gardening in a brand-new behind-the-scenes video and blog post. Aside from the beautiful vegetables the Gaines family has grown, the video also offers a rare glimpse at each of the Gaines children.

In Gaines’s post, the designer and author explained, “My hope for this book is that it inspires families to want to get out and connect in fun, creative ways—whether or not it’s in the garden. It could be sewing or painting or cooking together. Whatever it may be, at the end of the day there’s always something to learn and I believe taking the time to try something new together makes it all the more meaningful.” We definitely agree.

Beautifully illustrated by Julianna Swaney, the book is now available online and in stores at your favorite book retailers. You can even snag a copy at Amazon right now for $14 and get it in time for spring break.

TBH, we’re down with anything that’ll get our kids outside.
