This just in: Camilla Parker Bowles’s coronation headpiece will pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Today, the royal family revealed that the Queen Consort will wear Queen Mary’s crown at King Charles’s coronation in May. Ahead of the special occasion, jewelry experts will make a few changes to the piece. For example, the stones will be replaced with Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds in honor of Queen Elizabeth.

The royal family announced the exciting news by sharing a slideshow of photos on Instagram, featuring photos of Queen Mary wearing the crown and close-up shots of the headpiece.

The caption read, “Queen Mary’s Crown has been removed from display at the Tower of London for modification work ahead of the Coronation in May. The Crown will be worn by The Queen Consort, which is the first time in recent history that an existing crown will be used for the Coronation of a Consort instead of a new commission being made.”

It continued, “In tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Crown will be reset with the Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds. The diamonds were part of Queen Elizabeth II’s personal jewelry collection for many years and were often worn by Her late Majesty as brooches—swipe to find out more.”

The coronation weekend will begin on May 6, beginning with the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey. The date holds a special meaning to the royal family because it’s the birthday of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie.

We can’t wait to see the Queen Consort wear Queen Mary’s new and improved crown.
