It’s the Spider Donut for me

Dunkin’

It’s been only a few weeks since Dunkin’ launched its fall menu. Teeming with maple candied bacon, spicy hash browns and all things pumpkin, the chain’s seasonal offerings are no doubt an ode to autumn. But if you think that’s all they’re offering this season, think again—the brand just dropped a whole new range of drinks and snacks, all designed to get you ready for All Hallows Eve.

Dunkin’s new Halloween menu includes a number of freaky-delicious treats, along with a brand-new drink that trick-or-treaters of all ages will want to taste. I, a food editor, headed to the nearest location to taste them all. Here, you’ll find my honest reviews, original photos and overall ranking of the entire lineup. Read on for the details.

The 10 Best Dunkin’ Drinks, According to Our Coffee-Sipping Editors

4. Candy Bar Signature Latte

  • What It Is: espresso, milk and flavors of chocolate, toffee, pretzel and peanut butter, topped with whipped cream, mocha drizzle and crumbled candy pieces
  • Price (small, iced): $4

I tried the iced version to ensure I got all the visible toppings, but you could order it hot as well. I definitely tasted chocolate, toffee and “pretzel” (aka a hint of salt) from whatever syrups and flavorings are in this sipper, but I didn’t detect peanut butter or any nuttiness. It has a sweet flavor and silky texture with notes of caramel, brown sugar and mocha. Be sure to use your straw (or fine, a spoon) to scoop up the candy bits on top for crackly morsels of buttery, salty toffee and bready pretzels before they go soggy.

3. Spider Donut

  • What It Is: purple-frosted donut topped with a glazed chocolate MUNCHKINS Donut Hole Treat, topped with chocolate drizzle and vanilla-flavored icing
  • Price: $2

I give this number major points for cuteness. It’s a smart way to tweak existing menu items for the holiday. The spider body was, of course, flawlessly moist, chocolatey and decadent. As for the purple-frosted base, which I imagine is a dyed riff of the vanilla frosted donut, it was soft, doughy and not excessively cloying. I liked its slightly crisp, hard texture—think glaze on a holiday sugar cookie.

2. Halloween Munchkin Bucket

  • What It Is: a festive bucket filled with 50 MUNCHKINS Donut Hole Treats
  • Price: $14

For a Halloween party or school function, this bucket—inspired by the chain’s Insta-worthy Spider Donut—is just the ticket. It was crowd-pleasing and easy to carry. I appreciated that it came filled with a variety of MUNCHKINS, most notably the Halloween Sprinkle and Pumpkin varieties. (The latter was my favorite bite overall from the early fall menu.) Get it while supplies last, and you’ll have the coolest trick-or-treat pail on the block.

1. Halloween Sprinkle Munchkins

  • What It Is: glazed chocolate cake donut hole, coated in Halloween sprinkles
  • Price: $1/three

I had zero complaints about this delightful Dunkin’ Halloween menu item. Yes, it was very sweet. But that’s what MUNCHKINS are all about, no? I loved that they used the chocolate cake variety as the base; not only is it my favorite of the bite-sized varieties, but its dark color made the doughnut holes all the more festive beneath brown-and-orange sprinkles. The sprinkles themselves may have made the morsel a bit sweeter, but they also added plenty of crunchy texture to every bite. (P.S.: There are also full-size Halloween Sprinkle Donuts, if you’re looking to treat yourself, although the sprinkle ratio won’t be the same.)
