Best Full Coverage
1. Hermoza Genevieve One-Piece
- Size Range: US 2 to 14
- Why We Love It: offers full coverage without feeling dowdy, lots of patterns to choose from, comes with removable padding
One reader recommends the brand Hermoza on the whole, but the one-piece options specifically for anyone looking for a full-coverage suit that doesn’t feel frumpy. “The material is really soft and comfortable, and while it does have some compression to smooth you out, it’s still super easy to get the swimsuit on and off.” Her two favorite styles are the Genevieve halter, which is also one of the brands top sellers, and the strappy-back Sofia. For the halter, both the tie at the back of the neck and at the waist are adjustable (although that middle sash is attached to the torso), and it comes with a built-in shelf bra to better support your bust. But for all Hermoza’s swimsuits, it’s recommended you go up one from your usual dress size. As one reviewer writes, “This swimsuit is super flattering and fits perfectly! Material is high quality and offers plenty of support. I wear a size G cup so often worry about support up top but the gals feel very supported in this material and style.”
Best String Bikini
2. J.Crew String Bikini Top and String Bottom
- Size Range: XXS to 3X
- Why We Love It: adjustable fit, lots of color options, comes with removable padding, built-in UPF 50 sun protection
“I know this isn’t the most popular swim silhouette right now, but I’ve always loved string bikinis because you can adjust them to fit your curves exactly the way you like,” says Fashion Editor Abby Hepworth. “And this set from J.Crew offers just the right amount of coverage—just because I’m wearing a string bikini doesn’t mean I want to expose everything—and the bottoms don’t ride up in back.” Indeed, adjustable strings allow you to tighten or loosen your bikini as needed, and the top can be tied in a myriad of ways if you want to shake things up. And the recycled nylon material is wonderfully soft to the touch and won’t appear sheer or show the removable padding in the bust when wet.
Best for Long Torsos
- Size Range: XS to XXXL, also Long Torso
- Why We Love It: sexy without being too over the top, moderate coverage in back
“My whole life, I’ve hated wearing a one-piece,” says Senior Editor Dana Dickey. But upon discovering Andie’s long-torso offerings, she’s ready to embrace a whole new range of one-pieces specifically designed to fit her torso correctly, with no tugging or pulling. “Not going to lie, the Andie Santorini was so comfy. It not only holds me in around the midsection, it does so without hoisting upward on my crotch and seat areas. I'm thinking this would even be a cute top to wear under a lightweight blazer for summer evenings out—it's that comfy and stylish.” And if the keyhole cutout isn’t quite your style, Andie has lots of cute long torso one-pieces to choose from including the sleek high-neck Lanai, for maximum coverage that doesn’t feel dowdy.
- Size Range: US 0 to 24
- Why We Love It: select colors available in Long Torso sizes, flattering silhouette, durable and long lasting
Multiple Summersalt swimsuits were thrown in the ring in our poll to find the most comfortable bathing suits, but it was the Sidestroke that came up more often than any others. (Although the Marina and the Ruffle Backflip were fairly close seconds.) The standout feature here appears to be the Goldilocks-level of compression—not too much, not too little—which helps smooth your silhouette without feeling like shapewear. As one buyer writes, “This suit is exactly as described. The blocking of colors provides a slimming effect. The material is thicker than most other brands so it holds everything in and provides the exact right amount of coverage. I’ve never received so many compliments as when I wear this suit!” And it’s durable, too, so you won’t suddenly find yourself needing to purchase a new swimsuit after just one season. One reviewer who owns multiple Summersalt one-pieces, says, “My oldest one is 4 years old and still in perfect condition. I live at the beach and have a pool, so I get a lot of usage out of it and wash it frequently. I’m amazed how well they hold up.”
5. Wild Fable Textured Tie-Front Top and Textured High-Leg Bottom
- Size Range: XXS to XL, also D/DD
- Why We Love It: affordable, lots of styles to choose from
Associate Editor Chelsea Candelario is a big fan of stocking up on bikini separates from Target that she can mix and match all summer long. And while there are multiple styles she loves, the best come from Target’s Wild Fable line. “I’ve bought, like, a million pieces at this point. There are so many options to mix and match! I have a large chest and wide hips, so I appreciate that there are so many cute options that cover the bits so I don’t have to worry about anything slipping out on vacation.” This specific two-piece has adjustable straps and removable padding in the bust. And while the front tie is sewn on, you can tighten and loosen it if you want the top to fit more like a triangle bikini or a scoop neck. The high-cut legs on the bottom are phenomenal for lengthening your stems. According to reviews, most Wild Fable swimsuits run true to size, but if you’re between sizes we suggest going for the smaller for a more streamlined fit.
- Size Range: one size (fits approximately US 2 to 12)
- Why We Love It: signature stretchy material is super comfortable and conforms to your curves, lots of colors and styles to choose from
Multiple PureWow editors recommended this sustainably-focused swimwear brand that’s also loved by celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian. And while we’re always skeptical of brands that sell just one size, PureWow-ers with a range of body types all raved about Hunza G’s signature stretchy material. Emily Kerr, SVP of growth, says, “I was so surprised at how flattering and supportive the swimsuit was while also being mega comfy. A bunch of my friends had recommended it, and I was doubtful as a lot of my friends who recommended it are teeny, and I have a chonky arse and big droopy boobs, but it lives up to the hype!” An editor who recently became a mom adds, “I really didn’t want to spend a ton on maternity swimwear that would only be relevant for one summer. But Hunza G’s suits were able to expand with my belly and are still flattering and fit beautifully postpartum. And while some folks might be disappointed by the level of support (there isn’t a ton), I loved that the material wasn’t compressing my already uncomfortable pregnant body.”
Most Classic Silhouette
7. Everlane Square-Neck One-Piece
- Size Range: XXS to XXL
- Why We Love It: timeless silhouette, comes with removable padding, made with sustainable, eco-friendly materials
Managing Editor Catrina Yohay has long been on the hunt for a classic one-piece that’s also long torso-friendly, and this Everlane suit checked off all her boxes. “I have a long torso, so one-pieces can be hit or miss, but this style fits like a dream without tugging on my shoulders or crotch. I usually shy away from open back swimsuits—I find they don’t offer as much support or structure in the bust—but Everlane’s suit comes with a built-in shelf bra and cups so I feel much more supported.” In fact, before launching its very first swim collection in 2021 (which included the square-neck one-piece), Everlane tested its designs on 112 women of varying body types and sizes to ensure the swimwear is truly comfortable for a wide range of women. And they’ve continued to make tiny tweaks here and there based on customer feedback. That said, most reviewers found this suit ran a smidge large, so if you’re between sizes you may want to size down.
8. Dippin’ Daisy’s Bliss One Piece
- Size Range: XS to 3X
- Why We Love It: adjustable straps, lots of color options, made in the US from recycled materials
PureWow Assistant Editor Destinee Scott is a big fan of this sustainable swimwear brand. “I got the Bliss one-piece last summer and it’s so smooth and comfortable that I also wore it with shorts to attend a music festival and had no problems whatsoever.” We love the sexy, lace-up front (though the crisscross detail can’t be modified), and the shoulder straps are fully adjustable to get your perfect fit. We’d describe the coverage in back as moderate, and although the front does have a plunging neckline, the cut of the bust offers a decent amount of coverage (on the sides and top, at least) even for those with larger boobs. According to Scott, the suit runs true to size.
Best Selection of Trends
9. Aerie V Wire Scoop Top and Crossover High-Waist Bottom
- Size Range: XXS to XXL
- Why We Love It: affordable price point, lots of styles and colors to choose from, partially made from recycled material
Much like Target, Aerie is another all-around favorite for PureWow editors for comfortable swimwear. The partially recycled materials used strike that ideal balance between soft and supportive, and won’t feel itchy or irritating, even when wet. The brand also purportedly runs true to size, so there’s less guessing when it comes to adding to cart. “I’ve owned tons of Aerie swimsuits over the years,” says Hepworth. “And I still wear them regularly, even the ones that I’ve had for five or more years—they really hold up. After seeing this crossover high-waist bikini bottom all over TikTok, I decided to take the plunge (pun very much intended) and buy one for myself. I’m not usually a fan of high-waist silhouettes on my shorter torso, but there’s no denying the crisscross waistband was incredibly flattering and notably comfortable. There was no digging in around my belly, nor did it roll or sag after a full day of wear. And the top was equally as delightful, offering plenty of support and coverage while still feeling a little sexy thanks to that V in front.”
Best for Active Beach-Goers
10. Left On Friday Double Scoop One-Piece
Left On Friday
- Size Range: XS to XXL, also Long Torso
- Why We Love It: lots of color and style options to choose from, long torso one-pieces available in select colors, incredible customer service
Both Fashion Editor Abby Hepworth and Director of Brand Partnerships Lisa Del Vecchio adore the brand Left On Friday. “First of all, the color options are incredible,” says Hepworth. “But the fit is also impeccable. I’ve seriously never felt more comfortable in a swimsuit, both for just lounging around and for getting far too into beach volleyball and/or chasing my niece and nephew around the sand. I know no matter what I’m not going to fall out or get a wedgie or generally feel the need to adjust, tug or pull throughout the day.” Del Vecchio is similarly impressed with the fit. “Their suits are so comfy and super supportive for a variety of body types. I’m personally a huge fan of the Double Scoop one-piece because it is so supportive for bigger busts and has that timeless Baywatch vibe that never goes out of style.”
Best for Fluctuating Figures
- Size Range: one size (fits approximately sizes US 2 to 14); there are also styles to fit sizes US 14 to 24
- Why We Love It: super stretchy material is incredibly comfortable for numerous body types, lots of colors and styles to choose from, long torso-friendly
Much like Hunza G, YouSwim’s designs use a super stretchy-yet-supportive material that allows the brand to sell just two sizes, Stretch I (roughly sizes US 2 to 14) and Stretch II (roughly sizes US 14 to 24). Despite first feeling skeptical, Senior Food Editor Katherine Gillen has been majorly impressed with her Poise one-piece. “It’s so very comfy and lives up to the marketing—meaning it’s both stretchy and supportive.” She also finds that the coverage hits that sweet spot between dowdy and over exposed, with just enough cheek and clavicle to feel confident and cool. One reviewer writes, “This suit is literally amazing, so cute and simple and comfy! I struggle with weight fluctuation constantly and each summer I always end up buying new suits when my old ones don’t fit. I love that I can always grab this suit and don’t have to worry about whether it will fit or not, it’s drastically improved my confidence in swimwear.”
Durable and Eco-Friendly
12. Unsubscribed Plunge Bikini Top and High-Rise Brief
- Size Range: XXS to XL
- Why We Love It: sustainably focused, lots of styles to mix and match
Senior Social Strategist Raquel Sosnovich admits Unsubscribed swimwear doesn’t come cheap, but it’s well worth the investment in her opinion. “Even though their swimsuits are on the pricier side, the quality is unlike any other brand I've tried before. They're incredibly soft, durable and timeless. I love that they are made of recycled materials and produced ethically.” Plus, they hold up extremely well through multiple summers. “I can say from experience that you can wear the suits over and over without noticing and wear and tear.” Most Unsubscribed designs are timeless silhouettes made from a nylon-elastane blend that looks incredibly sleek. According to reviews, it runs pretty true to size, but when in doubt you can always double check the size chart.
Made from Recycled Materials
13. Skatie Kate Top and Scarlette Bottom
- Size Range: XS to XL
- Why We Love It: sustainably and ethically made, lots of styles to mix and match, lots of colors to choose from
Assistant Commerce Editor Natalie LaBarbera adores the brand Skatie for its super soft materials and flattering cuts. “I have three different suits from the brand and I am obsessed with them all!” Skatie uses only recycled and upcycled materials to create their own soft-yet-supportive blend. Plus, they offers lots of different styles—from super-cheeky bikini bottoms to one-shoulder tops to full-coverage one-pieces—in a huge range of patterns and colors, so there is bound to be at least one (if not three or four) swimsuits you’ll adore. “I don't usually buy underwire bikini tops, but this is so comfortable, and I love the fun print. Fabric is very soft too!” says one reviewer. As for sizing, LaBarbera and most reviewers found most Skatie styles run true to size but if you’re between sizes you will likely be more comfortable sizing up.
PureWow Reader Favorite
14. J.Crew Ruched Bandeau One-Piece
- Size Range: US 0 to 24, also Long Torso in select colors
- Why We Love It: lots of colors to choose from, flattering and timeless silhouette, fits true to size
We asked and you answered, informing us that this J.Crew one-piece is one of PureWow readers’ favorite bathing suits. In particular, the ruched bodice and full-coverage back were touted as major highlights. “That ruching along the torso is great for smoothing out lumps and bumps without depending on compression,” explains Hepworth. “So you maintain all the comfort but with an added slimming effect. The best of both worlds!” Multiple reviewers mention owning this suit in more than one color and snapping up new patterns as they drop each year. This suit also appears to run true to size, or perhaps even a smidge large. “I initially ordered a size 12, even though I’m usually an 8 or 10 in pants, because swimsuits usually run pretty small,” writes one reviewer. “I ended up returning the 12 (super easy) and got the size 8. Fits like a glove and very flattering!”
Low Rise Bottom with Max Coverage in Back
15. Victoria’s Secret Twist Low-Rise Bikini Bottom
- Size Range: XS to XXL
- Why We Love It: affordable price point, run true to size
If you’re not a fan of high-waist bikini bottoms but don’t want your whole bottom hanging out either, Commerce Director Nicole Briese may have a solution for you. “Because this Victoria’s Secret bottom has a lower rise and isn’t super high-cut in the leg, it won’t pull up in back to give you a wedgie every time you move. I really don’t like my butt hanging out and this [brand makes] one of the only suits I’ve owned that actually covers my rear.” The low-cut waist and knots at the hips of this suit give the illusion of a higher-cut bikini bottom, but help secure your bottoms in place to minimize any risk of riding up, as Briese mentioned. And according to reviewers, it runs true to size.
