Here’s some food for thought while you’re elbow-deep in spring cleaning mode: There are definitely a few trends worth giving the boot this season (or at least storing away in the archives for now). This way, you’ll have room to embrace fresh spring fashion trends like barn jackets and sheer skirts or cherry red and butter yellow. But whatever you do, don’t toss your most comfortable sneakers just yet because we know how fast the trend cycles go around (skinny jeans, anyone?). Below, four trends I’m ready to part ways with for spring 2025, and the ones I’m excited to welcome in their place.

  • What to wear instead: bootcut jeans

If the trend cycle wasn’t cutthroat enough, wide-leg pants just got the boot. As someone who owns multiple wide-leg trousers and jeans, I’m certainly not parting ways with my pants forever, just for the spring season. And if I’m being honest, I’ve struggled to find wide-leg pants in the past that really fit my body well; sometimes they make me look shorter than I am or muddle my figure with their naturally roomy nature—especially when I wear them with sneakers. Instead, I am embracing bootcut jeans like my favorite Frame style in their place because of how elongating and flattering they are. From the boho revival set ablaze at the Chloé runway to *those* Celine jeans worn by Kendrick Lamar at this year’s Superbowl, the bootcut silhouette is not going anywhere this year.

2. Silk Skirts

  • What to wear instead: organza midi skirts

Silk skirts are one of those staples I’ve urged everyone to include in their capsule wardrobe, but I’m a little fed up with having to hairspray the static away (IYKYK). Not to mention, the delicate material often clings and pulls if it’s now sewn right, so it’s hard to find affordable options that are just as flattering as bespoke designer pieces. Organza, on the other hand, has a similar lightweight, thin and luxe feel that a true silk has but with a little more structure and a lot more dimension—after all, it is sheer. With many fashion houses staying firm on the sheer trend, I highly recommend trying out organza midi skirts in place of your silks. I’d take inspo from Prada and couple it with a long button-down tucked in and heeled mules, letting the cotton blouse peak out from under the sheer fabric.

3. White Sneakers

  • What to wear instead: vibrant, retro-inspired trainers

I’ve been off white sneakers for a while now, so I’m happy to know that other people on Instagram, TikTok and IRL are, too. From New York to London, people are trading in their trusty blank canvases for colorful Adidas, suede sneakers and trendy Onitsuka Tigers. A few years ago, all we could talk about was the Dad shoe, and still—though the versions we’re gravitating towards now are a bit more story a little less lifestyle—retro sneakers are all we can talk about. Perhaps that’s because we can’t seem to part with the idea of comfortable shoes, but we’re reaching for ones that feel a little more stylish and vibrant, like our best accessory.

4. Baguette Bags

  • What to wear instead: bucket bags

Before you go sell your Fendi baguettes…don’t! I’m not calling the end of the baguette style by any means, I’m just noticing a decline in popularity for the shoulder style. Honestly, as someone who owns a Fendi baguette myself and treats it as if it was a child, I’ll never be fully off this classic shape, though I am intrigued to consider new silhouettes for my spring handbag collection like the bucket bag. From Toteme to Loro Piana to Chanel, fashion houses have come out with their signature styles for many years, and retailers are following suit. I like how the compact carryall combines practicality with utter charm, making it rather easy to wear every day.
