What Would You Take in the Divorce, According to Your Zodiac Sign

A few years ago, a friend was going through a heavy breakup. He wasn’t ever married to his partner, but because they lived together, shared finances, a car, and a dog, it sure felt like they were getting a divorce. At the time, this friend was experiencing something in his birth chart that I call, “the divorce transit.” Boundary planet Saturn was moving through his eighth house—the place of shared resources, where we deal with debts, taxes and the joining and separation of our assets. (Disclaimer: This transit doesn’t always correlate with divorce. But in general, it’s about building structure around or separating what’s shared.)

There are many factors that inform how one deals with divorce and separation, both emotionally and, of course, financially. Using astrology, we can get a pretty clear idea of what each sign would take in the divorce. Let’s dive in!

This might be surprising, but competitive Aries is less concerned about getting the most money or stuff in the divorce and is more interested in tying up loose emotional ends. Aries would rather spend years in couple’s therapy going deeper and looking for breakthroughs than to fully call it quits.

Tauruses are known for being practical (and also, a bit stubborn), but when it comes to shared assets, they’re most concerned with experiences. Taurus is less worried about who gets the fancy cookware or furniture (and let’s be real, that was always theirs to begin with), and more concerned about who gets the non-refundable plane tickets.

Though Geminis can seem flighty, one thing they’re very serious about is shared assets. It takes a lot to get a Gemini to commit in the first place, so you know they went into the marriage with an iron tight prenup. Geminis won’t take everything in the divorce, but they will take most of it.

Though Cancer is known as the nurturer of the zodiac, they can surprisingly be all business when it comes to breakups. Cancer remains cool as a cucumber through most divorce proceedings, and make sure that they keep the house, the car and whatever they need to thrive on their own.

More than any other sign, Leos end up leaving relationships with a lot of emotional baggage. Leos make sure their partner gets what they want in the divorce, often ending up with the bare minimum for themselves. That being said, no one has a post-split glow up quite like a Leo (Think: Jennifer Lopez) so no need to pity them, they’re doing just fine.

As organized as Virgos are, they tend to be a bit careless when it comes to shared resources. So when it comes time to separate the assets, Virgos might lean more toward last minute, dramatic decisions. Virgo grabs what they can and runs from the scene of the crime.

Libras like nice things. So if they acquired a bunch of high quality stuff with their partner, you bet they’re taking it all with them in the divorce. Libras are getting the money, the house and the Le Creuset Dutch oven. You can also be sure that Libra will be taking full custody of any and all plant babies in the split.

Though Scorpios are intense, when it comes to shared resources, they can be a bit scatterbrained. After the wedding, they likely considered everything between them and their partner fluid, which is why they’re likely to walk away with less than they wanted to in the divorce. That said, though they miss out on stuff, they always get the last word.

Sagittarius might seem aloof or too cool for school, but when it comes to breakups, they’re extremely sentimental. When settling up in a divorce, they want to take all the scrapbooks and tchotchkes. You can’t put a price on memories!

Per their earth sign MO, Capricorn is very practical when it comes to divorce. That is, about everything except for their fur children. Capricorn won’t settle for anything less than full custody of their cats and dogs, so don’t try to negotiate otherwise!

Aquarius might seem chill, but in many ways, they’re actually just Virgos in eccentric clothing. That’s all to say that Aquarians are constantly making lists and checking tabs when it comes to shared assets. Aquarians will walk away from the divorce with every last thing that belongs to them. They have the receipts!

Pisces won’t take more than they should in the divorce, but they will make sure to take every single thing they deserve. When it comes to what’s shared, Pisces are concerned with balance and fairness. You might catch a Pisces splitting all assets down the middle, but it’s also possible that they’ll negotiate so each partner gets back exactly what they put in (and we know Pisces put in a lot!)
