Simone Biles Makes Rare Personal Statement from Tokyo Olympics

While Simone Biles is in the midst of her latest Olympic competition, she just took the time to make a rare personal statement on her Instagram account.

The gold medal-winning gymnast posted a story to show support for her close friend and teammate, MyKayla Skinner. As a part of the women's team, this was Skinner's first Olympic appearance. However, during the gymnastics qualifiers earlier today, Skinner did not make the cut for any event finals.

Biles shared her disappointment at seeing Skinner's Olympic run come to an end on her Instagram Story. She posted a photo of her and Skinner hugging and said, “So proud of this one. No one understands the hard work & dedication it takes to come back from collegiate gymnastics & make an Olympic team. You did the damn thing! Thanks for reminding us that grandma's can do it too! Thanks for keeping gym light-hearted and fun! I love you Ms. Olympian @mykaylaskinner2016. P.S. Can't wait for tour.”

Biles's reference to grandmas comes from an earlier joke that she had made on her Instagram. As the second-oldest member of the team (and only three months younger than Skinner), Biles previously posted a snap with Skinner that said: “Little did you know OG stands for olympic grandma’s ♥ but we ready doe.” In the image, the two posed back-to-back in the Tokyo gymnastics arena. Their fellow teammate, Sunisa Lee, commented, “The best grandma’s.”

While Biles is an inspiration on the mat, we love knowing that she's such a supportive teammate too.
