Kelly Ripa turned a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan into a family affair.
Last week, the actress and her co-host, Ryan Seacrest, hosted Live’s Viewer’s Choice Show. One of the awards was given to Ripa’s three kids—Michael (25), Lola (21) and Joaquin (19)—who previously appeared on the talk show.
To accept the honor, Lola and Joaquin made a virtual cameo, but their appearance didn’t go according to plan.
The video begins by replaying the old clip that won the award, featuring Ripa talking about her “original” hair color. Right on cue, the camera cuts back to show Ripa and Seacrest who are virtually joined by Lola and Joaquin. (Michael isn’t there due to a work conflict.)
While Lola looks extremely prepared, the same can’t be said for Joaquin who’s driving in his car. (He explains that the countdown took longer than expected, and he can’t miss class.)
After the introductions, Ripa asks where Lola is streaming from because her background looks like “an elegant hotel.” To which she replies, “Oh, don’t you worry about that, Mom. I’m safe, and I am happy.”
Lola also pokes fun at her brother, adding, “His screen is very distracting. I don’t know how you guys are feeling about it.”
While discussing the award, Lola admits that it’s a dream come true. “I was speaking to Joaquin about this. I said, ‘You know, what’s funny is going into 2023, I had always wished that I would win an award on this show,’” she says. “I mean, what could be better?”
Lola deserves her own talk show. (There, we said it.)
