When it comes to holidays—big or small—you can pretty much count on the royal family to make some kind of nod. From global celebrations like Christmas, Easter and Mother’s Day to more UK-centric moments like ANZAC Day or VE Day, they’re usually on it. And yep, Armed Forces Day was no exception.

Saturday, June 28, marked Armed Forces Day in the UK—an annual event held in late June to honor the brave men and women serving in the British Armed Forces. To commemorate the occasion, Kensington Palace shared a thoughtful tribute on social media and it included a little piece of Princess Diana.

The video montage was set to an inspirational instrumental track and featured a mix of clips showing Prince William and Kate Middleton at various military-related events. Highlights included their appearance at the 80th anniversary of VE Day last month, the St. Patrick’s Day parade with the Irish Guards and William’s recent visit to the Army Air Corps.

While watching, eagle-eyed fans might’ve also noticed a sweet detail: Princess Catherine was wearing a pair of earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. One of the clips was from the Prince and Princess of Wales's visit to Scotland for the official naming ceremony of the HMS Glasgow. For the occasion, Princess Catherine looked effortlessly elegant in a navy coat dress by Suzannah London and completed the look with Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire and diamond drop earrings.

“Proud to mark Armed Forces Day. Thank you to everyone serving in the British Armed Forces, and to all veterans, for your courage, dedication and sacrifice," they captioned the post.

And they weren’t the only ones honoring the day. Over at Buckingham Palace, a separate tribute featured a carousel of images, including striking shots of King Charles from past military events. The caption offered gratitude to current service members, veterans and the families who support them behind the scenes.

“Saluting all members of the military this #ArmedForcesDay,” the caption read. “Thank you for your tireless service, protecting the UK and promoting peace overseas.”
