Clarke is widely recognized for playing Daenerys Targaryen (aka Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons, etc.) on the popular HBO series, which airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The role earned her a spot on Time’s list of The Most Influential People, which—according to Emma Thompson—was a no-brainer.
“She has the courage of a small lion, the stamina of a Welsh pit pony and the soul of a clown. A powerhouse to watch and an ally to die for,” the 60-year-old actress wrote in Clarke’s Time 100 bio.
The GoT star also earned several nods during awards season, including Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the SAG Awards.
Clarke was one of many incredible women to be featured on the Time 100 list, including Ariana Grande, Sandra Oh, Chrissy Teigen, Regina King, Emilia Clarke, Brie Larson, Glenn Close, Joanna Gaines and Meghan Markle’s wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller.
