Joanna Gaines Predicts *This* Color Will Be Huge in 2023

Joanna Gaines just confirmed what we already saw coming: The color green is here to stay.

The Fixer Upper star, 44, sat down for a recent interview with PureWow to promote Magnolia Home’s all-new exteriors collection with James Hardie. When asked about trends, Gaines revealed that homeowners are turning away from neutrals and opting for more color, especially green.

“I’m seeing more individuality and uniqueness in styles,” she told PureWow. “I think people are kind of tired of that cookie cutter or doing what everyone else is doing.”

Gaines explained that green is one of her favorite bold options, and she even gave specific examples using colors from the exteriors collection. “I’m seeing a lot of these play on tones where you may do like a darker green,” Gaines said. “You know, like the Chiseled Green with the Last Embers or the Midnight Soot to make it moodier.”

She continued, “It’s almost like people are trying to really personalize things. They really wanted to feel individual as opposed to this mass market where everybody’s house is the exact same color. People are experimenting a little more. It’s not as traditional but just as fun.”

The color green has been making a comeback as of late. Earlier this year, The Harris Poll conducted a survey and concluded that online searches for “green paint” have more than doubled since 2020. Stephanie Pierce, the director of design and trends at MasterBrand Cabinets, also told PureWow that “green is quickly gaining color confidence.”

Pantone won’t announce its 2023 color of the year until later this year, but if it’s anything like Glidden paint’s teal-green selection, then perhaps Gaines is onto something.
