The “It” Sandal of 2020 Is Waterproof, Affordable & Comes in Every Pattern Imaginable
Indecisive folks, consider this a warning: Freedom Moses does not make it easy to figure out which of their summer slides to buy. Sure, their price point is reasonable ($45 is far less than any designer sandal) and their signature design is simple (two straps with a faux-buckle detail). But these summer shoes simply come in too many colors, patterns and prints, making it unbearably hard to pick just one.
Now that we’ve gotten the only negative out of the way, just know this: Once you figure out your chosen pattern, you’ll be so glad you bought a pair of Freedom Moses’s. I, personally, went with the abstract leopard print on a tan background and have worn them almost daily since I got them, with leggings, bike shorts, bikinis and sundresses.
See, it was the Freedom Moses style with sweet red hearts on a white background that first caught my eye on Instagram, because of course. While I’ve since forgotten exactly which IG account I saw the shoes, I remember zooming in on the shoes, taking a screenshot and sending it to my friends with the rhetorical question: Do I need these?
They naturally supported my decision to purchase them—and immediately decided that they, as well, should invest in a pair. After nearly 30 minutes of back and forth, one friend ordered a silver sparkly pair, the other ended up with a painterly black and white spatter style, while I pivoted to the aforementioned leopard number. Although I was admittedly torn between buying the red bandana print, the pastel tie-dye style or, surprisingly, the yellow snakeskin design.
“I’m inspired by ’60s nostalgia and laidback vibes, always, which is very Tel Aviv,” says Israel-based Sarah Gurt, the founder and designer of Freedom Moses. Prior to starting her footwear brand she designed shoes for Chinese Laundry, Oscar de la Renta and Thierry Mugler. But after years of designing gorgeous (and toe-pinching) heels, she wanted to create a totally different footwear experience. “I wanted something really casual, comfortable and easy to produce,” Gurt tells PureWow.
And she clearly put her expertise to use; each pair of Freedom Moses slides have a cross-hatched insole that keeps your feet from sliding around when they’re wet (or, yeah, sweaty) but is nearly undetectable while you’re walking around. These sandals are also infused with air to be light as a feather, making them a no-brainer to throw in a beach bag or a suitcase. And, bonus, the eco-friendly plastic material is vegan, recyclable and washable. (And yes, you can get your little ones a pair, too, as they come in toddler and kid’s sizes).
Anyways, good luck picking just one color or pattern.
