best swimsuits for small busts
PureWow

Years ago, I used to wish my B-cup boobs weren’t so…small, but as I learned to love my body, I realized that having a smaller chest was nothing to be ashamed of—and it certainly didn’t make me any less of a woman. In fact, I’ve come to realize that those of us with small boobs can pull off wearing more daring bikini tops and one-pieces than our bigger bosomed friends, from plunging necklines to bustier tops and more. But that doesn’t mean every style will be the most flattering swimsuit for a smaller chest. I’ve tried on my fair share of bikinis that made my boobs look as flat as a plank of wood or sad and limp, but I’ve also found those holy-grail styles that can take them from murky to perky. That’s why it’s crucial to always consider bathing suits specifically designed for your body, whether that’s swimsuits for long torsos, petite swimsuits or swimsuits for wide hips. In order to pin down the absolute best swimsuits for small busts, I asked a few experts for their advice and scoured swimsuits at Target, J.Crew and all the stores to find 25 silhouettes that are guaranteed to compliment your gals beautifully, whether you’re working with Bs, As or even AAs.

Meet the Expert

  • Erin Collins-Rittling is Aerie’s director of styling and an experienced senior stylist in the retail industry with more than 15 years of experience working with American Eagle Outfitters Inc.
  • Cameron Armstrong is the founder and CEO of Kitty & Vibe, a size-inclusive swimwear brand that uses sustainable and recyclable fabrics. Before Kitty & Vibe, Armstrong worked in marketing at L’Oréal.
  • Michelle Copelman is the senior vice president of brand and design at Andie Swim. She has an extensive history working in retail design at many well-known brands, including Outdoor Voices, Solid & Striped and Victoria’s Secret before her time at Andie.

How I Chose the Best Swimsuits for Small Busts

Having had a flat, small chest my entire life, I’ve had years of experience pinning down specific styles that flatter, suit and complement my boobs, including supportive options that offer moderate to full coverage to more revealing options that give the girls a little lift for show. In addition to including some of my favorite bathing suits that I own, I also chatted with fashion experts at Kitty & VibeAndie Swim and Aerie for advice on swimsuit styles that look best on women with small boobs. Additionally, when vetting the top picks, I considered the comfortability of the design and materials, opted for items with an inclusive size range and picks for every budget. I even spent hours of research poring over customer rating and reviews to find all the nitty gritty details that you should know about. Below are the styles that are the most flattering.

Best Overall

1. Bluebella Shala Triangle Bikini Top Lilac

What I Like

  • can be worn multiple ways
  • gold tone embellishments
  • true to size

What I Don’t Like

  • metal hardware may get hot in the sun

Bluebella

When I heard that one of PureWow’s favorite affordable lingerie brands was expanding into swimwear, I just had to get my hands on this lilac beauty. I couldn’t unbox it fast enough when it arrived in the mail, and as soon as I slipped the classic triangle bikini top on and felt its comfy fabric, I knew there was no need to leave the tags on. It fit perfectly on my chest. I’d chalk that up to the halter neck top, because I’m able to tie it as tight or as loose as I want it (the tighter it is, the more lift you’ll see, though you may run the risk of a little underboob).

2. Away That Day Palma Top

What I Like

  • gathered fabric at the bust
  • adjustable straps
  • double lined

What I Don’t Like

  • pricey

Away That Day

I’ve been a fan of Away That Day for four years now. With three of their bathing suits under my belt, I’m ready to add to my collection with the brand’s signature Palma top, a fully adjustable bikini with a U-shape hardware detail at the front that—you guessed it—gives your bust a natural life. And, get this, there’s absolutely no padding or underwire whatsoever. In other words, you can bet this style is more than comfortable, but don’t just take my word for it. Away That Day buyer Rebecca E. says, “I wasn't sure how this swimsuit top would look on me as I typically go for a triangle bikini top, as that is what has always suited me best having a smaller cup size. I was SO happy when I received this—it fits perfectly, is such good quality and I LOVE the ‘U’ wire detail!”

3. Monday Swimwear Tamarama Top

What I Like

  • removable padding
  • contrast coloring
  • adjustable ties

What I Don’t Like

  • runs small

Monday Swimwear

It’s easy to feel good when you look good, and this black and white beauty certainly delivers on both fronts. Sophisticated to its core, the Tamarama top features striking color blocking at the bandeau cups that’ll make you feel like you’re channeling your inner Meredith Blake…Parent Trap, anyone? Plus, it has really thin straps at the neck and back that’ll make your tan lines as minimal as possible. Sizes run from a scale of petite to large, and according to the brand, this style runs small, so they recommend you size up for the most comfortable fit.

Best Smocked Swimsuit

4. J.Crew Smocked Square Neck Bikini Top

What I Like

  • adjustable and dainty tie shoulder straps
  • smocked fabric
  • moderate coverage

What I Don’t Like

  • little structure and no padding

J.Crew

One of the perks of having a smaller chest is being able to rock a bikini top like this that has light bust support but plenty of coverage, thanks to that square-neck fit and bandeau style. The smocked, stretchy material can easily expand where it needs to and compress where it doesn’t, so you can order whatever size will best fit your hips without worrying about the top gaping or sagging. Plus, the ruffles around the edges and dainty ties at the shoulders are the finishing touches that make this simply precious.

Best Cutout One-Piece Swimsuit

5. Eomenie One-Piece Cutout Swimsuit

What I Like

  • adjustable straps
  • supportive
  • slimming ruching

What I Don’t Like

  • non-removable padding

Eomenie

From the cutout design to the two-toned finish to the tummy control, this one-piece swimsuit is a no-brainer, especially when it comes to your cleavage. You can expect to see a small lift and push-up definition at your chest because of the halter crisscross back, crisscross fabric at the front and, of course, the V-neckline. But don’t just take my word for it. It has more than 8,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, with one happy customer saying, “It’s flattering (covers my mom pouch) but still feels sexy with the small cutout. If you’re self-conscious of your mid-section, this is the suit for you! I’m small-chested, so I can’t speak to the support of the top part, but for my fellow IBTC girls, it fits well and has a tiny bit of padding (hooray!).”

Best Multi-Way Bikini

6. Kitty & Vibe Halter Top

What I Like

  • can be worn multiple ways
  • removable padding
  • UPF 50 sun protection

What I Don’t Like

  • few colors and patterns to choose from

Kitty & Vibe

Kitty & Vibe has a ton of cute suits that fit an A or B cup, but this simple halter style is one of the best for faking a little extra oomph since you can adjust where the fabric sits on your boobs and find the perfect fit, whether that’s fully covered or displaying lots of skin. Plus, it’s one of those tops that can be worn three different ways—as a halter (pictured above), crisscrossed in the front or worn upside down, which always makes my boobs appear way bigger than they really are. One customer says, “My friend and I are both wearing a size B in this top! It is so comfy and flatting on every body type. It's a light support suit, but I like that it includes removable cups.” Plus, the material has built-in UPF 50 to better protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

  • UPF 50 sun protection

What I Don’t Like

Aerie

“I love the look and fit of this bikini top,” says one AE customer. “[It’s made with a] thick material, so there’s no peek-a-boob here! I haven’t had any issues with peeling or stretching out when wet.” It’s super texture-y since it’s comprised of the brand’s Real Good crinkle fabric, which has UPF 50 sun protection built in and is made of 96 percent recycled polyester and 4 percent elastane. Watch how the combination of the texture, V-neckline and halter transform your small chest into something to marvel at—all while keeping your boobs secure, too.

8. Andie Swim Marine Layer Santorini Top

What I Like

  • adjustable straps
  • front knot enhances smaller chests
  • comfortable, light support

What I Don’t Like

  • runs small

Andie Swim

If you’d rather not stress about your bikini ties coming undone, opt for a top that’s been stitched in place like this beauty from Andie Swim. The straps are adjustable but the front detail is not, so you can swim laps, run after the kids or join in that beach volleyball game worry free. “As many other reviewers have commented, this top runs small,” warns Kristin G., an Andie Swim customer who wears a 32B in bras and had to exchange her XS purchase for a S. “I love the smooth fabric, front knot and light padding, which are perfect for people with small boobs like myself looking for a little oomph.”

Best Ruffle Bikini for Small Busts

9. Cupshe Take Me To Tulum Ruffled Bikini Set

What I Like

  • affordable
  • ruffles add volume to your chest
  • adjustable straps

What I Don’t Like

  • may run slightly small

Cupshe

This is one of Cupshe’s most popular bikinis, and for good reason. It has nearly everything I want in a bathing suit, like medium coverage, adjustable straps, removable padding and a tasteful V-neck cut that won’t swallow your chest whole or show too much skin, either. A Cupshe customer says, “The top is great! I have a small bust—A cup—so most suits flatten me out even more, but not this one. The ruffle helps camouflage my small bust and is flattering!” Yes, that tiered ruffle fabric will provide extra volume and make the girls appear larger than they are. All for $30?!

Best Designer Swimsuit

10. Mara Hoffman Kia One-Piece

What I Like

  • cutouts at the front and back
  • moderate coverage
  • UPF 50 sun protection

What I Don’t Like

  • pricey

Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman is one of my favorite brands for luxe swimwear, particularly because of the gorgeous patterns and colors offered. This stunning abstract print works on any skin tone and, as an added bonus, the material has built-in UPF 50 for extra sun protection. It’s fully lined and features that tie front and V-neck combo I swear by for flattering a smaller chest. Sometimes, one-piece bathing suits can make your chest look flatter than it is, so having that cutout just below your boobs will provide the definition you need, and the cutout at the back is just the extra special detail that takes this suit to the next level.

Most Supportive Swimsuit

11. Eberjey Jane Textured Bikini Top

What I Like

  • flattering ruffle designs
  • supportive straps and cut
  • comfortable material

What I Don’t Like

  • straps are not adjustable

Eberjey

Supportive and flattering, this bikini top from Eberjey will hold your boobs in while you toss a frisbee on the beach and have you looking fashionable while you do it. According to the brand, the lightly textured fabric is soft, stretchy and designed to smooth and contour your silhouette without feeling restrictive, and it boasts extra sun protection from those harmful UV rays. The thick straps and square neckline will make it feel extra supportive and offer more coverage, so if that’s your thing, what are you waiting for?

Reformation

Small boobs + underwire bikini tops = pure magic. Now add a dash of polka dots, an adorable color combination and lace trim and you’ve got yourself on fabulous swimsuit that’ll complement your figure. A part of Reformation’s new swimwear line, this style from the retro-inspired collection is made with renewable, plant-based materials that are rather easy to care for. Simply handwash it and let your pretty bikini air dry in a shady area.

What I Don’t Like

  • appliqué may cause awkward tan line

Lovers and Friends

Perhaps it’s time to consider spicing up your basic triangle bikini with some floral appliqués. The Carrie Bradshaw-approved Y2K trend will add volume to your bust and draw attention where attention is due. I’ve seen swimsuits like this recently uptick in popularity on my social feeds, and I suspect the demand will only increase as summer approaches.

Oozing in sex appeal, this plunging bathing suit has a sculpting fit that buyers say cinches, enhances and shapes your silhouette like no other. Plus, the high-cut style is designed to sit high on your hips, giving you a leggy look while maintaining medium-to-cheeky coverage on the bum. “I was very scared to order this suit because of the price but let me tell you it is worth it” gushes a customer. “I have a small chest and wider hips, [and] it is hard to pull over my hips, but once it’s on it’s perfect. [It] hugs in all the right places, is cheeky and my itty bitties stay in place!”

What I Like

  • vibrant, tropical print
  • halter ties add security

What I Don’t Like

Farm Rio

Farm Rio never fails to deliver items that make me want to book a tropical vacation, stat. Take this bandeau bikini top, for example, which was made in Brazil and features a palm tree-adorned print throughout that would look good next to a Mai Tai. The bandeau style is a great swimsuit option for people with small breasts, and the added halter ties won’t just look cute but will also keep this from flying off the moment you dive into the pool.

18. Aerie Shine Pique String Triangle Bikini Top

What I Like

  • adjustable neck and back ties
  • contrast stitching
  • beaded embellishments

What I Don’t Like

  • padding is not included

Aerie

A V-neckline can give the illusion of a larger bust, and adding an attention-grabbing color like this ocean-like teal blue on this Aerie bikini can amplify that effect. “Look for suits that add some POW!,” advises Collins-Rittling. “The triangle bikini top is a great option that combines a flattering shape and a bold [color]—[both] of which will look fabulous on smaller chests,” she adds. Not to mention, the beads will naturally draw the eyes towards your chest, creating more va va voom where you may not usually get it. My favorite detail is easily the white contrast stitching because of how it pops against the vibrant shade.

  • color blocking

What I Don’t Like

Summersalt

Fans of Summersalt might recgonzie the similarities between this bikini and the brand’s best-selling Sidestroke one-piece swimsuit. This mix-and-match two-piece version is every bit as vibrant, fun and daring. And it has all the beloved details, of course, like the signature compressive and sustainably made fabric, which incorporates nylon waste (think: old fishing nets) pulled from oceans and post-consumer materials. “I am very small chested, and this suit is flattering and doesn't make me look as flat as I am,” says Summersalt buyer Audrey Y. Best of all? The elegant one-shoulder cut will not only look insanely good in photos, it’ll also keep your boobs feeling secure all day long.

20. Skims Micro Scoop Bikini Top

What I Like

  • comfortable, soft fabric
  • scoop top makes chest fuller
  • affordable

What I Don’t Like

  • runs small

Skims

Speaking of Cabo, a few years back I was in need of a bathing suit for my sister’s bachelorette weekend, and I ended up choosing a scoop top similar to the one pictured above, and my tiny chest never looked better. Skims shopper Gal A. can’t get enough of her micro top. She says, “[I] really love this swimsuit! I'm quite flat chested, and it makes my boobs look bigger and fuller. The coverage is pretty minimal, so I sized up.” Other buyers agree, finding that the micro fit can run quite small, so it might be best to size up, especially if you’re in between sizes.

Wild Fable

“Target has really come through for me this season,” raves one Target reviewer of this suit. “The colors are sooooo amazing in person.” What better way to splash into summer than with a bright printed bikini that buyers say looks even better in person? Another shopper writes, “The online photos DO NOT do it justice in regard to the vibrant pops of color that this suit has. [It’s] super adorable and [the] bright pinks, lavender, yellow and greens make this a standout swimsuit.” Other features they love? The stretchy fabric, back hook closure and, most notably, the double strap detail that’s both a cute addition and adds extra support. All that for less than $15? Say less.

  • compressive fabric

What I Don’t Like

Andie Swim

The neckline on this flattering one-piece hits at just the right point to cinch your waist and boost your bustline without going so far down as to feel overly exposed. One-piece bathing suits can sometimes feel dowdy, but this Mykonos style defies that generalization. It’s equipped with that alluring plunge neckline, contoured gathering along the bust and compressive fabric that shapes and enhances your natural figure. “The material feels like butter [and] the color is wonderful,” says Andie Swim customer Kelly P. “I really like the deep V-neckline—I’m a tall slender shape so it feels like it gives me some curves where I have very little.” In short: Be prepared to feel like a Bond girl in this sleek one-piece.

What to Consider When Shopping for the Best Swimsuits for Small Busts

  • Tie-front tops: A good rule of thumb if you want to give your bust a little boost is to look for tops with extra detailing. Not one for ruffles, fringe or other extras? There is one minimalist-approved style that will provide the same effect: tie-front tops. These simple silhouettes have just enough detail to add interest up top without feeling too fussy.
  • Plunging, deep V-necklines: “Low-cut necklines are a great option for small busts because you don't have to be as concerned with spillage,” says Armstrong. The V-shape also gives a boost to whatever cup size you’re working with, unlike scoop necks or bandeau styles.
  • Triangle tops in bold patterns: As mentioned above, a V-neckline can give the illusion of a larger bust, and adding an attention-grabbing pattern can amplify that effect. “Look for suits that add some POW!,” advises Collins-Rittling. “[A daring triangle top] is a great option that combines a flattering shape, a bold print and a crossover band—all of which will look fabulous on smaller chests,” she adds.
  • Bandeau tops: Not everyone with smaller boobs wants to make them look larger, and for those women I suggest taking full advantage of a classic bandeau style. According to Copelman, many of the Andie’s bandeau styles have been major hits amongst customers with smaller chests. “We've gotten great feedback from our customers with smaller busts. They love that they can wear [bandeau] tops with and without detachable straps without fear of the dreaded top-slip." And if you do want to give your gals some extra oomph, try bandeaus with ruching at the center, ruffle details or other attention-grabbing detailing.
