Two months after Sweet Magnolias was officially renewed for season five, production is officially underway—and this time, it’s happening in none other than New York City. Yep, Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) have traded Serenity, South Carolina, for the Big Apple (at least for now) and thanks to eagle-eyed fans and passersby, there’s already plenty of behind-the-scenes footage floating around social media. TVLine also dropped a few photos of the trio filming in Grand Central Terminal and let’s just say the internet has thoughts.

As fans might remember, Maddie recently accepted an irresistible marketing role at a publishing house in NYC—so it tracks that the ladies would take a little trip up north. But not everyone is thrilled about the change in scenery.

Some fans were all in on the vibe shift, flooding the comments with excitement. “My favorite show in my favorite city!!!” and “I am here for it!!!!! Holy exciting!!!!!” were just a few of the reactions.

Others, however, weren’t quite as hyped.

“Why NYC?!? I feel it’s going to change,” one person wrote. Another added, “Booooo! No! Maddie moving to NYC was the worst idea! Tyler finally found his people and was happy. Serenity is basically a character in the show. I hope they fix this in the upcoming season.” A third chimed in with, “I can’t say I’m happy about this. Why do shows always stray so far from the original premises that people loved?”

According to TVLine, the NYC scenes are part of a girls’ trip—so no, the Sweet Magnolias haven’t officially left Serenity behind.

There's no release date for season five just yet, but one thing’s for sure: fans will definitely be tuning in to get answers after those season four cliffhangers.
