New BTS Videos Show Rare Glimpse of ‘Live with Kelly & Ryan’ Set

Just because Live with Kelly and Ryan is following strict social distancing protocol doesn’t mean the crew can’t pretend there’s a live audience for the co-hosts, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.

Earlier today, producers shared a video on the Live Instagram account that was taken moments before the cameras started rolling. The footage offers a rare look at production, which resumed a few months ago in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the clip, Ripa and Seacrest are standing on opposite sides of the studio. The crew breaks into applause (similar to how the show began when it had a live audience), which prompts the co-hosts to assume their positions on set.

This isn’t the first-time producers have shared a glimpse of what goes down behind the scenes. Last month, Ripa starred in a video on the official Live Instagram account, which offered an inside look at what goes on when the cameras stop rolling.

In the video, Ripa is standing in a hallway as she waits to be called to set. She’s surrounded by loads of production gear, along with two television sets, so the crew can see what’s happening when they’re not in the studio.

Earlier this year, Seacrest started an online debate about whether the Live background scenery is real or fake. It all began when producers shared a BTS photo on Instagram of the co-host standing on the “balcony” of the set, which seemingly overlooks the New York City skyline.

The Live backdrop looks oddly realistic on live television—however, once we looked at it from this angle, the dimensions do seem off when compared to Seacrest’s body. Besides, NYC doesn’t have cloudless, blue skies on a daily basis.

Ah, TV magic at its finest.
