The Ultimate Guide to Beauty Oils

herbivore botanicals mini facial oils

You know that woman at work whose skin is always glowy, dewy, perfect? Chances are she’s heavy into beauty oils, and we fully support jumping on the bandwagon. With a formula for nearly every skin concern (wrinkles, acne, dryness, oiliness, you name it), it’s basically the fountain of youth. Not sure which one is best for you? This handy list should help.

The 12 Best Nontoxic Beauty Products for Glowing Skin

Marula Oil
If you’re dipping your toe into beauty oils, this might be a good place to start. Marula oil is pretty much the non-oiliest oil ever because its small molecules absorb deeper and quicker into skin, hair and nails. Try patting a couple drops onto your face before moisturizer, then massaging it into your cuticles to hydrate and strengthen dry nail beds.

Argan Oil
Referred to as “liquid gold,” argan oil is a superfood for hair and skin, courtesy of its age-defying antioxidants and hydrating omega fatty acids. Use it to fade wrinkles, make hair extra shiny and even combat annoying razor bumps (it’s anti-inflammatory, too).

Castor Oil
If you want long, full eyelashes (without committing to eyelash extensions), castor oil is your jam. It’s packed with omega-6 and omega-9 essential fatty acids, which promote hair growth. Just dip a clean spoolie into the oil and run it through your lashes like you would mascara a few times each evening.

Moringa Oil
Raise your hand if you think adult acne is the worst (raises hand). Well, moringa oil could be the solution. The oil itself helps lock in moisture (so your skin doesn’t feel like it has to produce any extra pore-clogging grease), and its antibacterial properties clear breakouts and prevent future ones from popping up.

Coconut Oil
Yes, yes, we know how amazing coconut oil is for dry skin. But it’s also a great natural cleanser/makeup remover and—get this—toothpaste. But our favorite way to use it is in our hair as a deep conditioner. It smoothes frizz, replenishes moisture and smells damn good doing it.

Jojoba Oil
If you have sensitive skin, reach for super-gentle jojoba oil. It absorbs easily because it mimics the natural sebum your skin produces, and also regulates it. This means your skin will always look dewy, never greasy. Plus, you can find it at Trader Joe’s, which is a homerun in our book.

Plum Oil
This cold-pressed, virgin oil is full of nourishing components including vitamins A and E. It hydrates dry skin, hair and nails so well, it’s even good for soothing conditions like eczema and psoriasis. If dryness is your issue, plum oil is more or less the oil to end all oils.
