3 Chic and Cozy Escapes to Play House in This Winter

Our fantasy living situation: A renovated brownstone and a gorgeous country home to escape to on weekends. Our reality: A fourth-floor walk-up and a hyperactive Pinterest account. Le sigh. Thankfully, there are weekend escapes to tide us over. Idyllically situated and decorated to shelter-mag perfection, these three buzzy establishments (either newly opened or recently revamped) are primed for the coziest of winter getaways. Book your stay now and make your #goals a reality...if only for a night or two.

The Dutchess

The vibe: Minimalism meets antique-chic
Think: Shaker furniture, Americana quilts, wide plank floors and rustic beams.

The setting: A sprawling, fully refurbished farmhouse estate tucked into the Hudson Valley.

Winter to-do list: Hike (or snowshoe) the property's 236 bucolic acres dotted with frozen ponds, streams and grazing horses. Then decant to the inn to curl up with a great book by one of the many fireplaces. Pep in your step? Drive ten minutes to nearby Rhinebeck for swanky boutiques, historical sights and delicious eats.

The cherry on top: Complimentary yoga and meditation lessons in an airy, light-strung barn.

(Psst: The Dutchess is a "secret hotel" with minimal web presence. (Intriguing, no?) Email for more info...including access to photos of the drop-dead-gorgeous interiors.);

Scribner's Catskill Lodge

The vibe: Brooklyn-eclectic on holiday

Think: Sheepskins, Persian rugs, minimalist furniture and fireplaces in nearly every guest room.

The setting: A totally spiffed up and overhauled ’60s ski lodge, set high on a hill in the Catskill Mountains.

Winter to-do list: A full day of skiing at Hunter Mountain, of course. Feeling less ambitious? Partake in a guided mountain walk before a leisurely, craft-cocktail-fueled lunch at Prospect, the acclaimed on-site restaurant.

The cherry on top: An après-ski program (through March) comprised of a Veuve Clicquot Champagne bar, fireside fondue and custom s'mores kits.

33 Main

The vibe: A serene spin on neo-Traditional
Think: Luxe linens, plush upholstery, Carrara marble bathrooms and tasteful pops of bling.

The setting: A Federal-style mansion (designed by Annie Selke) in the heart of downtown Lenox, nestled in the winter wonderland of the Berkshire Mountains.

Winter to-do list: Try your hand at snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at nearby Kennedy Park before returning to your room to snuggle up in the provided fluffy robe and watch Netflix (while noshing on the fresh-baked cookies that magically appeared in your room while you were out).

The cherry on top: If you like the bedding (or the art or the lamps, etc.), you can take it home with you.
