We Finally Have a New Trailer & Title for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

This brand-new teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX is just the thing to hold us over until the movie hits theaters later this year.

Today, the franchise dropped a first look at the upcoming chapter, which will pick up several years after Star Wars: The Last Jedi took place. In addition to the two-minute trailer, we also learned what the next installment will be called: The Rise of Skywalker.

In the trailer, Rey (Daisy Ridley) is standing in the middle of an open desert, waiting for battle.

“We’ve passed down all we know,” the narrator says. “A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight.”

When a spaceship zooms toward her, Rey unveils her lightsaber before performing some seriously impressive acrobatics. The teaser also features a montage of new journeys, battles and action scenes that are bound to receive a nod at next year’s Oscar Awards.

The Rise of Skywalker is the third installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which began with The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. During a recent panel, director J.J. Abrams warned fans that Episode IX is exploring a new chapter in the franchise.

“This movie, it’s about the new generation, and what they’ve inherited, the light and the dark, and asking the question as they face the greatest evil: Are they prepared? Are they ready?” he said.

Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters this Christmas, and we’re in no way prepared for what’s to come.
