Turns Out, Rihanna Thinks Finding the Perfect Work/Life Balance As a Mom Is Impossible, Too

We all may be anxiously waiting for Rihanna to perform at tonight's Super Bowl, but she's also got a beauty and lingerie empire to run, not to mention, she just welcomed her first child less than a year ago. Needless to say, girl is busy, and the singer recently opened up about her struggle with work-life balance as a new mom.

In a discussion with Nadeska from Apple Music ahead of her highly-anticipated game day performance, Rihanna opened up about how her perspective has changed since becoming a parent. When asked about how she manages her work-life balance, the “Umbrella” singer said, “The balance is almost impossible because no matter how you look at it, work is always something that's going to rob you of time with your child.”

Rihanna and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, welcomed their son in May 2022, nearly four months after Rihanna first revealed her baby bump while walking the streets of New York.

However, while becoming a mom has totally changed how she approaches work, Ri also said that it was the arrival of her son which inspired her to do the Super Bowl halftime show.

“When you become a mom, there's something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world—you can do anything,” she said. “And the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was because I haven't been on stage in...years, there's something exhilarating about the challenge of it all and it's important for me to do this, this year. It's important for representation. It's important for my son to see that.”

Rihanna's halftime performance at Super Bowl LVII will mark her first live performance in five years, since she performed “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller at the 60th Grammy Awards in 2018.

It has been more than seven years since Rihanna released her eighth studio album, Anti, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Since then, the singer has been featured on a few singles, and she made her return to music in October 2022 with the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever single “Lift Me Up,” which is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

You got this, Ri. And we can't wait to see you take that Super Bowl stage!
