This Just In: Regé-Jean Page Will *Not* Appear in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2

Sorry, Bridgerton fans, but Regé-Jean Page (Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings) won’t make an appearance in the show’s upcoming season two.

Netflix and Shondaland recently teamed up to announce the dreadful news via a message from none other than Lady Whistledown herself.

“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” it read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”

The message continued, “Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer—more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”

Though disappointed, we’re not very surprised by his departure, since Julia Quinn’s book series only included a one-novel story line for the duke. Not to mention, Page also spoke with Variety and revealed that he didn’t expect to return for season two.

“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end—give us a year,” he said. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

The Bridgerton family might move on. As for us…well, that’s an entirely different story.
