Reese Witherspoon Shares Her Book Club Pick for September

If you love historical novels, then feast your eyes on Reese Witherspoon’s all-new reading suggestion.

Over the weekend, the Big Little Lies star, 43, announced that she selected her book club pick for September: The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott, which tells the thrilling real-life story of two secretaries turned spies.

“Hank and I are big fans of historical fiction,” she wrote, referring to the four-legged pup in her photo. “If you are too, then you’re going to love the September book pick! This month for @ReesesBookClub, we are reading #TheSecretsWeKept by @laraprescott.”

Witherspoon went on to explain what readers can expect from the thriller, adding, “Set during the Cold War, it tells the story of secretaries turned spies who are tasked with smuggling ‘Doctor Zhivago’ out of the USSR and into the hands of Russian citizens. You’ll get to know Sally and Irina, two spies who risk it all for love and adventure. Follow along at @reesesbookclub, I can’t wait to hear what y’all think.”

The Secrets We Kept is Prescott’s debut novel. It takes place during the height of the Cold War and follows two CIA secretaries, Sally and Irina, who are yanked out of their everyday routine and given the assignment of a lifetime.

If Witherspoon’s last two book club picks—The Cactus by Sarah Haywood and The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda—are any indication, this is going to be a serious page-turner.
