I Can’t Stop Staring at Queen Camilla’s New Birthday Portraits But the New Royal Title Might Be the Bigger News

Today’s kind of a big deal in the royal world. Yes, I know we’ve had a lot of those recently—between Trooping the Colour, VE Day tributes and Prince William’s birthday festivities, the calendar’s been packed. But this one’s special: Queen Camilla is officially 78 today!

And not only is she celebrating another trip around the sun but she also got a pretty major early birthday present from her husband, King Charles.

The birthday celebrations started on July 16 when Buckingham Palace dropped a brand-new photo of the Queen looking totally radiant. She’s leaning on a bar (casually elegant, as always), grinning ear to ear in a breezy, tropical-inspired dress, with her signature flipped-out hairstyle looking flawless.

"The image was taken this month, in the garden at Raymill, Her Majesty’s private home in Wiltshire, by Chris Jackson," the caption shared.

Then, for her actual birthday on Thursday, royal fans were treated to another gorgeous snapshot from the same shoot. This time, Camilla’s cozied up in a wicker chair with an open book in her hands, serving pure summer relaxation energy.

But the birthday gifts didn’t stop there. In a history-making move, King Charles gave Camilla a new official royal title: Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom. And no, this isn’t just another name to add to her long list of titles, it’s actually kind of a huge deal.

For starters, it’s an honorary title that only the sovereign can bestow, based on the recommendation of the First Sea Lord (currently Sir Gwyn Jenkins, if you’re curious). And more importantly? Camilla is now the first woman ever to hold the role. Talk about breaking royal ground on your birthday.
