Last year, it was pouring buckets; this year, it was sunny and 70 degrees in London as the royal family made their way down the mall from Buckingham Palace in honor of Trooping the Colour, also known as King Charles’s official birthday parade. This meant that Kate Middleton and her children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—could participate via open-top carriage, which gave us a crystal clear view of the Wales family, happily waving to crowds lining the streets as they passed by.
Kate Middleton Stuns at Trooping the Colour in Surprising Electric Blue Hue
But it’s her earrings that add a meaningful touch

It was the Princess of Wales who most caught our eye given her choice to wear a new coat dress by Catherine Walker—called the ‘Bria’—in a bright and eye-catching electric blue hue. Her daughter, Charlotte, appears to have color coordinated with Kate, wearing a more delicate blue, but also gleefully chatting with her mom as the carriage carried them by. (George and Louis, for their part, both looked very grown up as they sat across from the royal pair.)

Kate’s hat—a wide-brimmed number by Juliette Botterill—is also a show-stopping complement to her ensemble, but it was her Bahrain pearl drop earrings that added a meaningful connection to her look: They once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II. (In fact, the Princess of Wales has worn them frequently over the years.)

In first look photos, we caught an early glimpse of Kate, alongside Prince William and her children, arriving at Buckingham Palace just ahead of the start of the annual military parade. Prince Louis sat between the Prince and Princess of Wales as the trio looked out.
Of course, Trooping the Colour is a significant event for the king, but it’s now also synonymous with Kate, who last year, used the occasion to mark her official return to public duties following her cancer treatment, a diagnosis she revealed in March 2024. Seeing her joyously waving alongside her children today felt like yet another milestone moment in her recovery and a sight to see.
Speaking of royal sightings, we can’t wait for more today.
