How Prince William Honored the Late Princess Diana During Royal Outing

Grab the tissues, ladies and gents, because Prince William just followed in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Earlier today, the Duke of Cambridge, 38, stopped by The Royal Marsden in honor of the building of the Trust’s Oak Cancer Centre. The appearance comes 30 years after Princess Diana paid a similar visit to the iconic hospital. At the time, she presented a ceremonial foundation stone commemorating the construction of the new Wing.

The royal family documented the moment by sharing a slideshow of photos on the joint Instagram account (@kensingtonroyal) Prince William shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. The post begins with a rare snapshot of Princess Diana, followed by recent pictures from the Duke of Cambridge’s outing. Is it a coincidence that both appearances celebrated a new construction? We think not.

The caption included information about the royal’s itinerary: “As part of the visit today, Prince William met a small number of patients, and heard how clinical trials at The Royal Marsden have transformed their lives, and about their experiences of receiving treatment during the pandemic.”

It continued, “The Royal Marsden opened its doors in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education. Today, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a world-leading cancer center specializing in cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education with its two hospitals at Chelsea and Sutton.”

We have no doubt Princess Diana is beaming with pride.
