Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, just stepped out for an event they hold close to their heart.
On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a memorial service honoring the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. (The tragedy took place in 2017, when a fire erupted in a 24-story apartment building and killed 72 people.)
Prince William and Middleton honored the victims with flowers and wreaths before chatting with the survivors and their families. The service (which took place at the foot of the now-vacated tower) was organized by Grenfell United, a charity that was created by a group of survivors advocating for change.
This isn’t the first time Prince William and Middleton have honored the victims of the cataclysmic West London fire. Back in 2017, the Duke of Cambridge and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, visited the families and rescue workers. Prince William broke royal protocol by hugging a woman who was desperate to find her husband. He was so overcome with emotion, he pulled her into a hug even though members of the royal family are only allowed to make contact with others by shaking hands.
