The reason why makes total sense

Royal watchers know the 7-year-old Prince Louis as the cheeky younger brother of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, thanks to his playful antics at major events — from funny faces at Trooping the Colour to rocking his mom’s sunglasses and even shushing her mid-ceremony.

What many people may not know is that Kate Middleton and Prince William's youngest son has a quirky hobby involving conkers (horse chestnuts) —and that hobby nearly landed him his first official “job offer.”

Last month, the princess met with UK Scoutmaster Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program at Frogmore Gardens in Windsor. While there, she revealed that Prince Louis loves conkers. “We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed – conkers everywhere.” She added that the young royal even put the conkers in his toy trucks and played with them.

After hearing this, the World Conker Championships wrote to the Prince and Princess of Wales with the offer of Louis's first official role as their honorary patron.

"He would be the perfect honorary patron for our organization," a rep for the championships told the Telegraph earlier this week. "We would be delighted were his parents to accept our offer."

However, the offer was not accepted. Per The Telegraph, a palace spokesman said: “We really appreciate the invitation but currently Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies.”

Besides his conker collection, Louis also enjoys scooting and is learning how to play the drums, a hobby that has his dad, Prince William, jokingly lamenting “I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears,” according to People. Not only that, but the Princess of Wales recently revealed that Louis has expressed interest in becoming a fighter pilot when he grows up. “I’m going to tell [him] it takes eight years and a lot of hard work,” she shared.

But for now, it looks like royal duties will have to wait until after recess.
