Prince George Is Turning 9! The Young Royal Is All Smiles in Brand-New Birthday Portrait

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s oldest child, Prince George, is turning nine tomorrow (and looking more like his dad by the day).

And today, the royal family celebrated Prince George’s birthday early by releasing a brand-new portrait on social media.

In the portrait, Prince George is smiling for the camera in a light blue collared shirt. The young royal bears a striking resemblance to his dad at this age, especially with his sandy blonde hair.

The caption read, “Prince George is turning 9!”

Prince George recently made his Wimbledon debut when he attended the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios. At the time, he was 8—the same age that Prince William was when he first watched the tennis tournament with his late mother, Princess Diana.

Many royal aficionados believed there was a hidden meaning behind the recent outing, since Prince William and Middleton left their youngest children—Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4)—at home. While Wimbledon has a rule that states children must be older than five to attend the event, Middleton offered a simple explanation.

“It’s George’s treat today,” she said, according to the Daily Star.

Fingers crossed that motto carries over to his birthday celebrations.
