In advance of his 12th birthday, Prince George has been making royal headlines a lot. The future monarch made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon alongside his mother, Kate Middleton, his father, Prince William, and his younger sister, Princess Charlotte. And while Charlotte undoubtedly stole the show, George's body language during the event spoke volumes.

The future monarch looks so grown up

Then, the young prince made news again as reports surfaced that his mom might break the royal rules for him. (TBD if that happens.) George also appeared with the Wales Fam at Trooping the Colour (where Prince Louis was his mini-me).
Now, Prince George's 12th birthday has arrived, and as expected, Kensington Palace shared a never-before-seen look at the prince. And it's clear he's growing up so fast.
In honor of George's birthday on July 22, Prince William and Princess Catherine shared a striking new portrait on their official social media account. In the image, the young royal is smiling and leaning on a fence.
The caption reads, "Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!"
Most notable about the post? Besides looking like a mini adult, George has a nearly identical smile to his father (just check out that adorable toothy grin).

Also of note: The image wasn't taken by his mother, Princess Catherine. Rather, royal photographer Josh Shinner is credited for the gorgeous image.
In addition to the photo, the family shared a playful video featuring George and his siblings. The footage was captioned, "12 today!"
Of course, this isn't the first birthday tribute we've seen this year...
For Princess Charlotte's 10th birthday, we got a brand-new pic (taken by Princess Catherine herself). The royal family captioned the post, "Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte!" along with a white heart emoji. There were quite a few notable elements to the post, including her camo outfit, her natural surroundings (perhaps a nod to her mom) and, of course, how she also has her father's grin.
This year, we've also gotten birthday tributes to Queen Camilla (hers came with a fresh new title) and Prince William (his came with a surprise announcement).
Here's wishing Prince George a very happy birthday!
