When Meryl Streep Wants French Fries While in 19th Century Period Dress, Meryl Streep Gets French Fries

Timothée Chalamet just shared a photo of himself, Florence Pugh and Meryl Streep in full costume on the set of Little Women. The catch? They’re casually holding French fries from Wendy’s, and there’s a pretty great story behind it.

As it turns out, Streep specifically requested an impromptu fast food run while filming the highly anticipated remake, which is directed by Greta Gerwig (also pictured).

The slideshow features a series of behind-the-scenes photos. The one in question is the fourth snap, which shows Chalamet, Gerwig, Pugh and Streep posing with Wendy’s French fries.

Pugh recently discussed the moment on an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and revealed that Streep’s timing couldn’t have been more awkward, since they were dressed in extravagant period costumes.

“We were wearing these beautiful coats, like, dripping with jewels. You know, the usual. I remember it was cold, and [Streep] was like, ‘I would just kill for some fries right now,’” she said.

A production assistant arrived “within seconds” and went on the Streep-requested errand, retrieving said fries in record time. “[He] was out of breath,” Pugh added. “They had grabbed Wendy’s fries in about ten minutes.”

The pic gets more priceless the more we look at it. It’s not every day you see actors holding fast food while playing characters who are supposed to be from the late 1800s. And of course we can’t help at laugh at the fact that the crew dropped everything to give Streep what she wanted, like, immediately.
