We Had No Idea Meghan & Harry’s Daughter Is the *Second* Royal to Be Born in America

Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor may be the first American-born great-grandchild of the queen, but she’s surprisingly not the first member of the royal family born in the United States.

Last week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl named Lili. The couple broke the exciting family news on Sunday in a lengthy statement on their Archewell website, which revealed that she was born in the “trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.”

And while we originally thought she was the first royal baby to be born in the U.S.A., we realized we were mistaken. As Tatler points out, there’s another American-born heir in the current line of succession: Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor. (Don’t worry, we never heard of her either.)

51st in line to the throne, Maud is the eldest child of Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife Sophie Winkleman. Are you still with us? Per the outlet, she’s the first grandchild of Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, and also served as one of the flower girls at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

Similar to baby Lili, Maud was also born in California (specifically Los Angeles) in 2013. However, the young royal and her fam moved back to the United Kingdom where they currently reside.

So, while Lili might not be the first, the second member of the royal fam to be born stateside is still a huge title to have.
