If there’s one thing Princess Catherine knows how to do, besides her royal duties, it’s serve looks. Whether she’s in a gorgeous blush pink Christian Dior set or chic green trousers that are perfect for the office, she always brings the style. And her accessories are just as iconic. Remember her personalized necklace with her kids’ initials, her four-piece ring stack and heirloom pieces that carry major sentimental weight? Well, today was no exception.

The Princess of Wales, 43, stepped out in a sleek all-black ensemble to attend the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, who passed away at the age of 92 on Friday, September 5. While her outfit was appropriately somber, it was the jewelry she chose that quietly gave a nod to royal history.

Around her neck was a four-strand pearl choker with a diamond clasp, the same piece once worn by Queen Elizabeth herself. If it looks familiar, that’s because Catherine has worn it during major royal moments before, including the funerals of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and Prince Philip in 2021, as well as during a formal dinner in 2017 celebrating the Queen and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary.

The necklace itself is a royal heirloom with a rich history. It was reportedly a gift from the Japanese government to Queen Elizabeth and was also worn by Princess Diana.
