Sure, Kate Middleton’s blonde hair has been the talk of the town as we enter September, but when the Princess of Wales stepped out at the Natural History Museum last week, my focus was on her business casual wardrobe: Specifically, her dark green pants.

Unlike her fitted Ralph Lauren blazer, Kate’s trousers weren’t IDed. Still, I love how surprising it was to see her herringbone jacket paired with such an unexpected pant color: forest green.
In recent years, Kate has steadily integrated a clear work uniform into her wardrobe, which she busts out for royal engagements. A blouse, a blazer and a pair of fitted pants has become her go-to combo, an evolution from her earlier days as a working royal where a range of A-line dresses reigned supreme. Suits are also something she reaches for more regularly, but they skew a bit more formal. At the Natural History Museum last week, her attire felt spot-on for an occasion that was professional (she is royal patron of the museum) but also included children. (It poured, too, but that’s another story.)

The hue of Kate’s trouser was particularly well-played given the occasion took place in honor of the new Nature Discovery Garden that recently opened at the museum. Forest green and its natural, earthy vibe is on-theme, but it’s also an easy base that pairs beautifully with other neutrals (think cream, white, even brown). It also feels a bit more interesting than black.
Now, the fun part: How to mirror Kate’s style. I pulled a few equally eye-catching trouser options below.
