James Marsden Warns Fans About Teddy's Future on ‘Westworld’

James Marsden has some bad news for Teddy fans.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Westworld actor discussed the transformation his character is enduring throughout the season and warned that it’s only the beginning.

“I can’t say much, but it doesn’t feel any less dangerous,” he said of future episodes. “In fact, if the curve is going one way, it’s only going up as far as the intensity, danger and potential for catastrophe. That continues to accelerate and increase.” Gulp.

In season two, episode five of Westworld, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) alters Teddy’s programming to help him cope with the fact that he’s a host. Marsden revealed that although his character is being controlled by Dolores, he hopes their complicated relationship will redefine the modern-day hero.

He continued, “It’s a really cool redefining of those tropes, and how we define a hero. That role reversal was really interesting to me, allowing ourselves to redefine what it means to be a ‘male hero.’ We think of these heroes as being total badasses, in control, good with guns and good at fighting—and now the postmodern hero is someone completely different.”

To top it off, even he can’t deny that Teddy and Dolores bring out the best in each other. “What’s interesting to me is there are parts of Teddy that are vulnerable and have more of a conscience than Dolores has. He represents a good side of her conscience this season,” Marsden added.
