As avid award show watchers, we’ve seen our fair share of funny celebrity reactions during the ceremonies. Seriously, who could forget Ben Affleck’s bored facial expression at the 2023 Grammys?!

At the 2024 BAFTAs, actresses Ayo Edebiri (one of our favorite new stars), Phoebe Dynevor, Sophie Wilde and Mia McKenna Bruce personally met Prince William backstage. And if we had to pick our favorite moment from this year’s BAFTAs, The Bear actress Edebiri’s facial expression as she talked to the Prince of Wales would surely be near the top of the list.

Below, William (who attended the ceremony solo this year) can be seen excitedly talking to the four BAFTAs Rising Star nominees. And Edebiri’s face...well...says a lot about whatever is going on. (She seems to be silently saying, ‘Is this really happening?!’ We can only imagine how she must’ve been feeling meeting the famous royal.)

Luckily, the rest of the interaction must’ve been a bit less shocking. Another pic shows Edebiri in her gorgeous peach gown smiling at How to Have Sex star Mila McKenna-Bruce (the Rising Star winner) as William congratulates the young actress on her win.

In a separate video shared by Reuters on X, social media users were given some context behind the royal meet-and-greet. The clip shows the Prince of Wales introducing himself to the four ladies. “Very nice to see you guys,” he says in the vid. “Honestly, the category was so strong, all of you, it’s like, who is going to pull this off? It’s incredible.”

Then, William congratulates How to Have Sex star Mila McKenna-Bruce on her win (and admits that he hasn’t seen the movie yet). “It looks like you had a lot of fun all the way through it,” the royal dad of three continues.

“I've got a lot of films to catch up on,” William adds and Edebiri proceeds to nod and smile enthusiastically. “Normally I get quite ahead of the award ceremony and I get to see quite a few of them. I haven’t managed to get that many through, so now I’ve got a list.” And the clip ends with the future king walking away to greet the other nominees.

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall backstage at the BAFTAs.
