Review: Dunkin’s New ‘Wicked’ Menu Tastes Like Magic (& Matcha)

I’m more of an Elphaba myself

dunkin' wicked menu review: dunkin' wicked menu drinks and munchkins
Dunkin’

Odds are you heard about Dunkin’s Halloween menu, made famous by the adorably iconic Spider Donut. As of November 5, the coffee chain swapped its spooky season and fall menu items in favor of new holiday bevs and bites. But don’t let the wintry splendor distract you from another epic launch that hit stores on the same day. Dunkin’ has three new menu items inspired by Wicked: For Good, not to mention a ton of fun, limited-edition merch.

As a food editor, I considered it my delicious duty to taste the lineup as soon as it hit stores. Here, you’ll find my honest review of the entire enchanting collection.

3. Wicked Pink Refresher

  • What It Is: strawberry dragon fruit refresher with blueberry flavoring and sparkling water
  • Price (small): $5

Even before tasting it, I was impressed with this homage. The pink hue was electrifyingly vibrant, and the bubbles from the sparkling water made it just fizzy enough and a tasty nod to the iconic character. I appreciated that the sparkling water diluted the syrupy sweetness of the strawberry dragon fruit base, while the blueberry flavor added tart nuance without bogging it down with more sugar. While it still tasted artificial (sort of like a strawberry lollipop), it was refreshing, pretty and oh-so Glinda.

2. Wicked Munchkins

  • What It Is: old fashioned Munchkins coated in green and pink sprinkles
  • Price: $1/three or $12/ten in Wicked tin

Wow, it’s like these aptly named doughnut holes have been waiting since their 1972 debut for this collab. Of course, they were moist, tender and sweet, despite being old-fashioned morsels instead of glazed. Now, if you’re here for the doughnut itself, you’ll be super pleased by its cakey texture and sweet exterior. But if you’re here for the crunch of the sprinkles, you may find yourself wanting more. (The Halloween Sprinkle Munchkins were much more generously coated, likely because the glaze on the chocolate base helped the sprinkles stick better.)

1. Wicked Green Matcha

  • What It Is: iced green matcha latte with brown sugar syrup, toasted almond flavoring and milk
  • Price (small): $5

Full disclosure: I’m not a matcha girl. But I quite enjoyed this Elphaba-inspired drink. The matcha’s earthiness still dominated the bev, but its bitterness was rounded out by the brown sugar syrup, which made it sweeter without conflicting with the taste of the matcha. What I liked most about it was the toasted almond flavoring, which brought macaroon-like nuttiness to every sip without additional sugar. Yes, it was sweet, but if you like matcha lattes, you need to give this beaut a try.
