I’m a Fashion Editor: Here’s What I’m Buying for Fall

Say what you will about wearing white after Labor Day, but these slim jeans are actually a shade of “dirty white.” I believe that’s what the cool kids are now calling “off-white” and honestly, I don’t hate it.

Here’s a short list of people who have threatened to steal this bag because it’s soooo cute: my mom, my best friend, a stranger on the street. So, yes, this purse appeals to a wide demographic and understandably so. It has adorable pom-poms, a chic chain strap, it’s big enough to carry my daily essentials (including a Kindle) and the various shades of denim woven into it matches every pair of jeans I own. Plus, this brand is about to blow up, so get one of their bags now before everyone has them.

I personally think every woman needs to have at least two trusty bodysuits in their arsenal at any given time. I recently discovered this style that’s woven from a fabric that feels just a step above cotton. Meaning, it’s an everyday luxury that makes me feel just a little bit fancy, even if I’m wearing the most basic outfit. Plus, it has two discreet snaps at the crotch that make getting dressed (and undressed) infinitely easier.

It’s a shirt! It’s a sweater! It’s the one thing that I probably won’t take off until next spring rolls around! I’ve been searching for a cardigan that can be my everything and I have a feeling this bubblegum pink alpaca knit is it.

Many a friend and acquaintance has teased me for lusting after clogs. But let me tell you, these studded, cow-printed shoes have added a whole new dimension to my daily routine. By that, I mean I put “Old Town Road” on repeat while getting dressed in the morning and slip these on while pretending to be a cowgirl. Since these gorgeous clogs play well with flouncy white dresses and blue jeans alike, I intend to wear them every day.

My petite frame tends to get a bit swallowed under blazers, so I’ve been pretty obsessed with the belt movement. This particular Tibi style comes in a sunny shade of yellow that I know will look great with light wash jeans. Don’t worry, HR, I’ll wear mine over a white T-shirt at the office.

The easiest way to go directly from my desk to any type of post-work event is a quick swipe of lipstick. But none of my current tubes were sparking joy...until I swiped on Dior’s newest liquid tube. My go-to shade is Whisper, because I can apply this rosy nude shade without peering in a mirror and trust that the velvety formula will stay put, even after a round or two of cocktails.

Repeat after me: This is the year that I will update my belt collection. OK, now that we’ve got that down, why not try out a style that feels totally new and refreshing but doesn’t cost a small fortune?

I refuse to buy another boring white button-down. I know, they’re classic and all that, but I want to have a little more fun in the blouse department. Hence this one from Khaite that brings the intrigue with off-kilter buttons, dropped shoulders and an extra-long shirttail.

While I’m at it, why not update my go-to black blouse, too? These Victorian-inspired sleeves add an air of drama to any ensemble, in any setting. Which, if I’m being honest, is always my personal goal.

I’m all about anything and everything retro, especially when it doesn’t require digging through the racks at a vintage store. That’s why I’m updating my dingy Chuck Taylors for this 1970s throwback that has a slightly more refined profile than your average pair of high-tops.

Do I need another black bag? No. Do I need another purse that fits little more than my iPhone and wallet? Definitely not. Will I spring for this By Far number? You betcha.

Here’s a weird fact about me: I can’t stop thinking about cargo pants. Rather than go overboard on this trend, I’m going to test the waters with this $50 olive green pair from Zara. Only time will tell if my cargo collection will grow from here…

I’m a gold girl, through and through, but I love mixing things up. So, this fall I’ll do that by introducing a silver chain to my jewelry box. This one will look good with tanks while the temps are still steamy but will also play nicely with a cashmere crewneck as soon as the forecast calls for it.

As the saying goes, you can never own enough leopard print (that is how the saying goes, right?). So, while I might already own the Ganni version of this dress in traditional leopard print with a much shorter hemline (similar to this one), I’m obsessed with this bold shade of emerald green. Also, imagine how cute it will look with a pair of slouchy leather boots.
