Here’s What Everyone in Copenhagen Is Wearing Right Now

1. Crescent Shapes

Last year was all about the ‘90s baguette, but for fall 2022, the shape has been exaggerated into more of a half moon or crescent. The good news is you can sport these in much the same way as you did your Rachel Green-inspired styles from last fall. And while smaller shoulder bags will still reign supreme, expect to see crescent shaped totes, crossbodies and mini bags as well.

Shop the trend: Coperni Swipe Baguette Bag ($695); Brandon Blackwood Syl Bag ($170); House of Want We Are Glorious Bag ($118); Tory Burch 151 Mercer Bag ($398; $279); Steve Madden Bpaula Bag ($73); Ganni Knot Handle Bag ($345)

2. Vintage-Inspired Hardware

Mid-size bags with classic gold or silver hardware planted front and center are making a surprising comeback this autumn. Some feature branded closures, like Tory Burch’s signature T buckles or Strathberry’s metal bar, while others have less identifiable clasps, giving them a vintage vibe. If you really want to lean into that vintage feeling, look for bags with a top handle and flap closure and a boxier, ‘50s-esque silhouette.

Shop the trend: Charles & Keith Min Gabine Bag ($66); By Far Fran Bag ($570; $258); Marc Jacobs The J Shoulder Bag ($425); Coach Tabby Shoulder Bag ($450; $315); Loeffler Randall Lennox Bag ($295)

3. Oversize Leather Totes

With a return to the office and regular life has come a return of the office tote. Yes, the time has officially come to pull your old daily standby out from the back of your closet or to invest in a newer version. Some designers featured truly enormous totes on the runway (looking at you, Jacquemus), but you really just need something that can comfortably fit all your needments—laptop, gym shoes, lunch, etc.—with a bit of extra room to spare.

Shop the trend: Cuyana Easy Tote ($248); Madewell Medium Transport Tote ($168); Everlane The Gallery Tote ($225); J.Crew Berkley Suede Tote ($248); Shinola Runwell Leather Tote ($495); Clare V. Le Zip Leather Tote ($465)

4. Structured Canvas Totes

Good news for anyone who’s been admiring Dior’s incredibly popular Book Tote over the past few months, many more affordable brands are debuting their own versions inspired by the structured canvas design (like the hilariously embroidered L.L.Bean totes all over Instagram). And while you may not think of canvas as a particularly autumnal or wintery material, you can definitely continue to carry this style well into the colder months of the year. Just be sure to choose a bag that either features darker neutrals or stereotypically fall hues, like burgundy, forest green or navy.

Shop the trend: L.L.Bean Boat and Tote Bag ($50); Marc Jacobs Large Monogram Tote ($350); Tory Burch Ella Jaquard Tote ($528; $370); Coach Signature Spin Tote ($295); MCM Munchen Large Tote ($990)

5. Shearling and Faux Fur

Fuzzy bags, be it shearling or faux fur, are a fun way to add some whimsy to your fall wardrobe. The effect is amplified if you opt for a bright or unnatural color, like orange or hot pink, but if you’re looking to invest in something for the long haul we’d stick with neutrals like beige or brown instead.

Shop the trend: JW Pei Abacus Bag ($79); Loeffler Randall Zahara Feather Bag ($295); ASOS Faux-Fur Grab Bag ($26); Proenza Schouler White Label Shearling Bag ($475); Nasty Gal Faux-Fur Grab Bag ($54; $27); Jacquemus Le Bambidou Shearling Bag ($1,645)

6. Slouchy Silhouettes

There are a few exceptions (like the vintage and canvas bags mentioned above), but most handbags this season have a relaxed shape, regardless of size. Look for soft leather totes that drape beautifully over your shoulder or cloud-like pouches, with or without a strap.

Shop the trend: Anthropologie Knotted Slouchy Bag ($88); Staud Kiki Bag ($295; $148); M.Gemi Eleonora Oversize Bag ($378); Mansur Gavriel Swing Shoulder Bag ($695; $278); Public Desire The Saint Half Moon Bag ($38); Wandler Maggie Leather Bag ($960)

7. High Shine

Patent leather, metallics, sequins and rhinestones are all on the rise, adding a glamorous touch to your everyday outfits. The most popular versions feature metallic leather—usually silver, but sometimes baby pink or icy blue—including one of the most coveted handbags of the year: the Diesel 1DR shoulder bag. Look for bags with a slouchier silhouette to offset the inherently dressy vibes of the shiny material and make them easier to wear for day.

Shop the trend: Public Desire Serena Bag ($38); Fossil Jolie Baguette Bag ($150; $105); Diesel 1DR Bag ($550); Olga Berg Jessica Bag ($110); Anthropologie Metallic Clutch ($80); Public Desire Bow Bag ($38)
